I decided to try to kick my cats toy mouse and missed and kicked the wall instead. I can walk but it hurts a lot. I cant get to a walk in till tomorrow because my daughter is asleep. And im a single mum. But its really painful and paracetamol isnt touching it

No idea sorry but elevate and put some ice on it wrapped up in a tea towel in a plastic bag. Hopefully someone more knowledgable will come along.

When I've had injuries in the past, the GP usually says he can't say unless it's x rayed. Can you do an e-consult in the morning and ask GP to refer you straight for x-ray? It will save you a wait in walk in, but if it's really painful, you might need to just go and wait. I hope it feels better soon. Have you tried the usual rest, ice, compression and elevate?

fhuaixnd · 10/09/2026 23:14

Yeah I've iced it and rested as much as I can with a 6 year old. I can walk but I end up limping and it hurts. And I know nobody can say yes or no. I think I was just hoping to avoid the walk in

Yes it could.

You're not going to know unless you go to a walk in - I know you want to try and avoid one, but you're best off going in the morning if you can.
You say you're a single mum, so appreciate that's not easy to do tonight with your child in bed, so I'd try and keep your weight off it as much as possible, keep elevated and maybe an ice pack to keep any swelling down. Then get to your nearest walk in centre in the morning as it could quite easily be broken or fractured/sprained.

I’m a first aider. The only way to know if to go for a x ray I’m afraid.

ETA - It looks very painful. I hope you are able to get it seen today.

My local walk in is full and isnt taking any patients until 7 pm. And a and e is a 13 hour wait and im supposed to collect my daughter at 3. I literally have no one. So im just going to leave it and see how it goes

Have you contacted GP and asked if you can go directly for an Xray. My GPs surgery have done this on loads of occasions for me. Guess it depends on the local authority.

I recently fractured my hand, I phoned 111 and they booked me an appointment at my local walk in. I was in and out in an hour and half including an xray and a splint fitted.

Tel12 · 11/09/2026 09:32

Phone 111, they should be able to advise and can make appointments.

Fedupoftheshits · 11/09/2026 09:35

Another vote for calling 111, when this happened to me before, they can get you through so you aren’t having to wait with everyone who has just walked in.

fhuaixnd · 11/09/2026 11:43

I called 111 and am waiting for an x-ray now at a walk in i didnt even know existed. Thank you. I really hope its not broken.

Glad you are getting it x-rayed. Flowers
Could be a break, or you've dislocated something. They do need to make sure that nerves and blood vessels aren't impinged.

ExH broke his toe after kicking a wall (don't ask) and they just strapped it up and told him not to walk on it. Easier said than done.

fhuaixnd · 11/09/2026 12:06

Waiting for results. I had an x ray. I did try to explain to the cat that its his fault for leaving his toy mice everywhere but he wasn't having it
