If you have young children, how much do you save each month?

As a household how much do you manage to save monthly?
Especially if you have young kids in nursery.
Me and DH have 2 boys under 3 in nursery part time as I only work part time, and collectively we put aside £50 into each of their junior ISA’s and around £500 into general savings and investments.

Hoping when they’re in school we can increase this

When mine were little, nothing.

We were balancing to the penny each month.

But, how would it help you if I said I save £1000 pm ?
or £5000 pm?
Or 50p a month ?

Surely you save what you can afford, and you and your dh choose to prioritise, over 'treats' or 'luxuries', or 'over paying mortgage', or 'building up your pension'.

If you don't have the money, it is irrelevant if some MNers are saving loads, or nothing.

Most months we break even.

Sometimes we save a little, sometimes we dip into the savings. But generally our savings pot stays the same over the long term.

We have £25k we borrowed when we took out our most recent mortgage in various savings accounts (which, due to good timing, has always earned more interest than it is costing). It was to help pay for mat leave but we didn't end up using any of it as I got PND, our lifestyle changed and I went back to work at 6 months due to the PND.

It's a long time ago (more than 40 years) but when we had two pre-school kids we didn't have two pennies to rub together after paying the bills. No carpet in the living room, and desperate upgrade neeed on the kitchen, one old banger car and I either made the girls' clothes or bought from charity shops. Things improved when I got a part-time job but it was a hard slog. We were, however, happy as pigs in muck and the girls don't remember us being hard-up at all!

We could save a small amount however choose to have memories, holidays etc with kids..oldest two have just started driving lessons. We always agreed we would pay for driving lessons and first car same when they get a house or flat important bits will be supplied to get on there feet..another has gone college ...but no saving as such for them unless we won a lottery...but when you talk to them the list of memories is cool and adventures

We save around 30% of our income with school aged children but it was less when they were in nursery as that was an expensive time!
