Prices on the rise....Again

IcyShark · 10/09/2026 18:22

Apparantly food inflation could be at 4% by Christmas.
What can we do?
Will prices ever stop rising? Will costs ever come down?
How are we all managing our money. Things seem very bleak.

Same here. Minimum order is 500L which I simply can't afford. I'll not be able to heat my home and will just boil the kettle for having a wash. Shit times.

UK sounds great, if this is reality for some.

This is indeed the reality, for some.

Andsoitbeganagain · 10/09/2026 18:34

It's dire. My income has doubled since 2020 and I'm having to be more cautious now than I ever was then.

It's shit. I'm just glad I only have myself to think about and don't have to worry about children.

That is shit! It costs a fortune in electric to heat our water using the immersion heater so thats out of the question.
I just wish i had ordered some a couple of months ago but thought the price would continue to drop but instead its done the opposite 😪

I could kick myself for not buying some a few months ago!! I naively thought the Iran situation would be over by now, and oil prices would reduce. Let's hope for a mild autumn and winter 🙏.

My neighbour's oil was stolen last week..a 2000L tank full! The scumbags would be very pissed off if they attempted to empty my tank as it's already empty!

dicentra365 · 10/09/2026 18:47

I've just been reading about the hospitality tax, will this push some hotels out of business and mean there are job losses or will it just mean that air bnb etc are more expensive?

Won’t it be a lot worse after the news today in Yemen and the seized Red Sea port..? So maybe now still is a better time to buy it.

If the situation gets worse, then oil prices will definitely increase. I need a large glass of wine to calm down 😂

I saw that mortgage rates are starting to go up again as well, it feels never ending

IcyShark · 10/09/2026 21:44

Diesel up again, food up again. It's so hard at the moment. The shops have christmas stuff in already making you feel that you have to start buying.
We are a family of 5 and food shop is expensive

We do. But it's boom time for oil companies and those who trade off them. Expect to see record profits (again)

Yes the hospitality industry have said there will be job losses. It just gets worse.

I think it will depend where. Some places it is impossible to get holiday accommodation so presumably those areas wont lose out as people will be willing to pay more like the lakes or parts of Cornwall. Lots of foreign countries have a tourist tax and they are still rammed.

Ihateboris · 11/09/2026 07:23

The price rises are having a massive knock on effect for everyone. I'm a cleaner and some of my clients are already cancelling or reducing their hours. So when people say "just work more hours " to cover the bills, sometimes it's just not possible. It's shit and I'm really worried 😟

Yeah we were in Greece this summer 180e tourist tax on top of our holiday payable on arrival, hotel was full
