What snacks are you taking to/buying at the cinema?

I'm taking myself to the cinema tomorrow night (to see The Incomer, if any one is interested).

My go to cinema snack is a big bag of Maltesers, that I'll buy at Tesco beforehand to avoid the cinema pricing. I've been known to buy an IceBlast (blue flavour), if I'm feeling wild.

Nachos with cheese dip are delicious also, but a rare purchase for me. Popcorn isn't for me; just gets stuck in my teeth.

I've seen things online that some folks buy hot food and take it in. A Nandos wrap, or a full McDs meal, for example.

I've even seen videos of people having a cinema charcuterie board via M&S picky food.

Have any of you experienced such flamboyance? Perhaps I'm not making the most of my alone time at the cinema! I'm open to suggestion if someone has a wonderful recommendation for me.

I take a flask of tea, a bag of sweet and salty popcorn, and a tub of random chocolates from home. I like variety so we buy the big bags and keep them in a drawer and i have a few of each - usually minstrels, malteasers, a chunk of Toblerone, some m&ms.

If it’s a Cineworld I always get a kid’s munch box. About £4 and it gets me a big bottle of water, a pack of magic stars, and is full of popcorn (especially as the water is too big for the box, so they take it out, hence getting even more popcorn in!)
Best value snack at the cinema!

I’m really boring. I just get standard cinema pick and mix, popcorn half salted half sweet and a cherry Pepsi max. I think cinema snacks are a treat in themselves because we don’t normally eat popcorn and pick n mix. Though if I’m feeling especially cheap, sometimes I make the kids by sweets from Tesco. Our local independent cinema is very affordable so it’s not hard to splurge on food.

What film are you going to see? I like to 'theme' the evening snacks!

50Balesofgrey · 10/09/2026 20:34

Nothing. I go to watch a film. If I want to go out to eat I go to a cafe.

Hoork · 10/09/2026 20:35

A large salty popcorn, a bag of choc, and a bottle of water.

None. Eating at the cinema is a horrible habit, and completely unnecessary. Just eat before you go.

🤣

LostInTheDream · 10/09/2026 21:58

If I go during the day on my own I usually buy a pastry and a hot chocolate/iced coffee from a nice bakery. Otherwise I might bring a bag of sweet and salty popcorn from home or any of the kids chocolate (and I definitely do this when taking my kids). If I buy snacks in the cinema it's usually ice cream or a tango ice blast.

Nothing. Nobody needs to eat at the cinema and it's mega distracting.

This is why I've stopped going to the cinema

Yogagrandmum · 11/09/2026 07:45

We rarely go to the cinema because of the snacking. Last time I went sometime was eating a burger. Disgusting 🤮 .

ItsAlwaysTwins · 11/09/2026 07:47

Our cinema has tables. We buy an exorbitantly priced cheese plate and share a bottle of red.

Mumofyellows · 11/09/2026 07:50

Sweet and salty mix pop corn, or something like minstrels or malteasers.
I can’t get on board with charcuterie in the cinema, I have experienced someone do this next to me and the smell was really grim, I don’t think it’s okay to take some something like that in, likewise a McDonalds, surely people can eat their meal before or after?!

Ridingthegravytrain · 11/09/2026 07:54

I pop a bag of sweet and salty at home and take that

Laiste · 11/09/2026 07:59

Always always - the nachos with cheese dip but NO jalapeños.
A big bag of maltesers.
A large Coke with ice.

It's the only time i ever drink Coke. I don't even like it but there's something about a cold coke washing down all the salt and chocolate 😆

As much as I love the high tech cinemas (the one in Marble Arch in the 80s blew my mind) my favourites were always the flea pits on a week night that sold tea and cake!

Now I just take chocolate.

LegacyOfExcellence · 11/09/2026 09:23

I don't eat at the cinema. I know it's a thing but I don't know why. I suppose it's encouraged by the cinema companies in order to make money. I did used to buy sweets (at the supermarket on the way) for DCs when they were little.
Surely hot food would be cold before the adverts/ trailers have finished? Surely after a big drink you risk needing to stumble out in the dark to go to the loo, disturb everyone and miss a chunk of the film?

Nothing to flamboyant and also no noisy wrappers or packets and always opened before the movie starts. Super annoying people wiat right when it starts on opening scene when its quiet.

Anyway in the past I have taken milkshakes from Five Guys in summer. Green tea in my own travel mug in winter or hot chocolate.

Used to buy popcorn in the cinema but its too ridiculously priced so I pick it up from Tesco.

I did once take in and have a meal deal as it was lunchtime 😆 felt weird eating a sandwich in the dark.

mcmuffin22 · 11/09/2026 10:51

Swet and salty popcorn and occasionally some Revels (added surprise element in the dark). Not too much chocolate though or I will need to drink a lot and then miss half the film in the loo.e

shopaholicanon · 11/09/2026 10:52

I hate it when people eat near me at the cinema so therefore don’t eat anything myself. I went to see the new Spiderman film last week and the lady next to me ate the whole way through the film! She started off with smelly, noisy nachos then ate sweets and crisps for the rest of the time. It really wasted the film for me.
I sometimes take in a latte from the Starbucks in the cinema but never take in food.
FFS people-eat before or after the film if you’re hungry. If you’re not hungry it’s just empty calories.

Harry12345 · 11/09/2026 12:18

If everyone didn’t eat at the cinema they could close down, they rely on food sales to make a profit. Getting or bringing snacks is part of the experience especially for kids
