Ideas for making princess dress-up more versatile

What are some good ways to make children's princess dress-up play more varied?
Accessories such as tiaras, wands, capes, bags and costume jewellery can give an existing dress a completely different feel. They can also encourage children to create their own characters rather than copying one specific princess.
A small dress-up box with mix-and-match pieces can be surprisingly versatile. What accessories have your children actually used repeatedly?

Does it have to be princess dress up, or wider options? Because things like a white coat are a lot more open-ended - could be a doctor, vet, chemist, someone working in a shop or cafe. So if you have a few multi-use bits like a white coat, a cape, overalls, a generic sort of "emergency worker" jacket with then a range of hats, that can cover a lot of bases. Then some real world accessories are useful, like an empty lanyard you can make different badges for, some old plain plastic lens glasses, some handkerchiefs, ties, necklaces, a travel coffee mug, clipboard and pen or little notebook for doing cafe orders.
