With the flight chaos????

no idea what time we’ll be leaving or if it’ll even happen

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2026 16:25

Where are you op?
Hope it’s sorted out soon

hotmumshit · 08/09/2026 16:50

Saw the noticification

Where are you? And where are you supposed to be going?

Sorry xx

princesspadam · 08/09/2026 16:50

No sign of any flights leaving so far

I’m not, where are you and what’s the chaos? I quite like airports (bit of shopping and a couple of drinks), it’s the actual flight but I’m not keen on however I’m always keen to get on so I can get off again at the other end!
are you (trying to) fly for business or pleasure? Where are you heading?

TheChosenTwo · 08/09/2026 16:52

Ohhhh air traffic control! Hope you get sorted soon op.

ProfessorofDarkArts · 08/09/2026 16:55

Yes my DP! On a plane at Luton that was supposed to leave at midday. Not sure if he’ll be travelling today, it’s all very unclear.

Statement from NATS:

NATS Statement

Technical issue causing some disruption to flight departures
08 September 2026
Statement at 15.25 on 8 September 2026

We have identified that the issue was in our flight processing system. Our engineers are on site and working urgently to resume normal operations as quickly as possible. We recognise the ongoing disruption to travel, for which we sincerely apologise. Flights are still departing and airspace is open, but recovery will take some time. We will provide further updates as soon as possible.

Passengers should check the status of their flight with their airline. We will provide further updates as soon as we have confirmed information, at www.nats.aero and on X at @NATS.

Hmmmm. I always wonder if "air traffic control issues" are code for, there was a credible terrorist threat but we don't want to tell you. But maybe that's tinfoil hat territory!

HelpMeGetThrough · 08/09/2026 16:59

Don’t panic!!! Heidi Alexander has come out and said engineers are “fixing it as we speak”.

Of course dear, closing all windows and switching off and on again, is going to sort that out!!

I think that’s a rather unhelpful post tbh!
perhaps keep your conspiracy theories just to yourself?!

It’s always what I think. Meant to be flying out tomorrow myself , looks like it’ll be delayed.

My DH works in ATC. Pop your tinfoil hat back on the peg.

Well that’s fucked it for the “nervous flyer”.

Nonotno · 08/09/2026 17:05

Flight Radar is a complete shit show . The flights that are airborne are going all over the place!

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2026 17:05

I think it’s a technical issue. It is a pain, but things happen

Me too.

notimagain · 08/09/2026 17:09

It's a tech issue again (rumour has it supposedly to do with inputting flight info for flights departing southern UK airports)...

So no flights out, space on the ground started to run out so some inbound to places like LHR got diverted.

Supposedly fixed a few minutes ago but it's going to take a long time for the sytem to recover with flights being out of position etc.

Iheartmysmart · 08/09/2026 17:09

DS has been sat on a plane for the last four hours with no sign of any updates yet.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/09/2026 17:07

No..

I'll leave it those with experts in the household but from what I've heard and read this looks like another actual system problem, rather than anything due to external forces/bad actors.

We have implemented a fix and our flight system is starting to recover. We are continuing to work closely with our airline and airport customers on recovery. We apologise sincerely for the disruption to people’s journeys today and they should continue to check with their airline.:

I have just looked on Flight Radar and there is a Heathrow to Shanghai flight that has done a U turn over Romania and is flying to Cardiff!

What's that all about?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 08/09/2026 17:19

I’m sitting at the gate in LCY. I should have taken off at 2pm. I might wander back to the terminal and spend my food voucher before all the meal deals are sold out. At least I’m not on a plane and can walk around.

No idea about the turnback - I'd speculate a minor/middling tech problem that they maybe didn't want to take to Shanghai because of the support/resources needed for a fix.

I'd guess they've ended up going to Cardiff because ATM there's no room on the ground at LHR.

Cardiff was a standard BA diversion option in my day, as much as anything because there's BA engineering support there and if worse case there is a need to bus passengers somewhere it's handy for the M4.
