Quickly setting up the new thread before we run out on the previous!

The prop forward did not describe it as a fracas. I suspect it was one of the times of his life. One does feel for the mezzo-soprano though. I think she mainly performs outside the UK these days?

Oh. Well…

Bank. Naturally.

I can only play an alternating half to Notting Hill Gate. (pace Teddington 2015).

Ah, the gauntlet has been thrown down. In riposte, I offer a spliced transverse (2004 version) to

St John’s Wood

AlwaysExtraHot · 15/10/2026 18:19

Oh, I didn't see that coming. I need to mug up on the 2004 manual; I'd forgotten that one. Well played!

A top-loaded Miyake to Seven Sisters

Vaguelyclassical · 15/10/2026 19:42

You do realize that the typo in the very important position in the second imprint of the 2004 manual has created over two decades of chaos? What a difference the omission of a comma can make!
A Scottish play to Caledonian Road.

AlwaysExtraHot · 16/10/2026 14:10

Yes, I know about the typo. I discovered it when I tried to play a back-handed left to a District Line station (I forget the details; it was a cocktail-hour game at the second bassoonist's lovely house). People may have been slightly merry but they did not let me get away with that one.

Demon-players, even in their cups!

Turnpike Lane. Only possible with a jabot I’ve been saving for just such an occasion…

Apostrophes are also important in the game of games. Thankfully not needed if you move as I do to Southgate.

DuckonaBike · 18/10/2026 13:50

Indeed they are, Llyn. Do you remember the terrible scenes when a formal invitation to a tournament at Garsington was found to contain a redundant apostrophe? There was a retired civil servant present (I won’t name names) who became so angry that I feared there would be bloodshed, until the Archdeacon managed to placate him with a well-chosen cocktail.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/10/2026 16:12

Many of the tensest moments in the game of games have been calmed, I notice, by the judicious introduction of a cocktail or two. Speaking of which:

Holborn

LlynTegid · 19/10/2026 07:22

I am sure that somewhere near to Hyde Park Corner a suitable cocktail could be found.

AlwaysExtraHot · 19/10/2026 16:32

'well-chosen' is certainly one word for the Archdeacon's cocktails.
Grange Hill

TragicMuse · 19/10/2026 23:29

I believe the Archdeacon learnt all he knew from a particularly lively part of his life at the Criterion Bar. Before taking the cloth, of course. I gather he’s still handy with a muddler.

Piccadilly Circus. Naturally! How could one pass up such an opportunity?

AlwaysExtraHot · 20/10/2026 17:56

There are pictures of the Archdeacon as he was in those heady days, if you know who to ask.
Lovely move; I do admire a well-executed Plinth Second. Brava!
I'm going to say Moorgate

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 20/10/2026 18:56

And then Bank. On the perpendicular, obviously.

LlynTegid · 20/10/2026 18:57

St Pauls'. Maybe we will find the Archdeacon there.

AlwaysExtraHot · 21/10/2026 10:15

Oh we are getting to the business end now.
A Parson's Vortex to Sudbury Hill

DuckonaBike · Yesterday 08:36

Ooh, you stumped everyone there, Always!

Let’s see if I can rescue the situation with a Jennings Brace to Northwick Park. Haven’t had occasion to use one of those in a long while ….

LlynTegid · Yesterday 09:36

A good move on the first day back on GMT, @DuckonaBike .

Time for a short move then, before the Major gets wind as he did in the 2001 tournament when this move was played and he took to the gin far too early- Northwood Hills.

TragicMuse · Yesterday 13:51

Does the Major need an excuse to start before the sun is over the yardarm?

Marylebone. I believe it meets the current rules vis-a-vis stations on the 2nd move following a Jennings Brace...
