Do you have a Filofax and if so, does it improve your life?!

Or at least help with organisation and look nice at the same time!

I think they’re having a resurgence and I’m tempted. I like to ‘think in ink’ - well, write my to do list down and put stuff in a diary … online stuff has its place but I need a planner as it’s how my brain works

Anyway I currently have a nice papier planner but I’m tempted by a personal sized leather Filofax in the shade ‘currant’ and wondering if I should go for it? I spend 30 quid a year anyway on a disposable’ planner so here I am trying to tell myself it’s a bargain

so do you use one still or will I look like a relic from the 80s / 90s?

Use my old filofax had it 30 years. So handy. Whole life is in there. Even the kids know where to find all my notes !

Computadora · 06/09/2026 21:35

Yeah I do - although I mostly work from home so don’t carry it around with me.
im also trialling some different notebooks/diary that i fit into a Filofax case (the ones with removable rings) in case that works better for me than the rings

HappiestSleeping · 06/09/2026 21:36

I would flippantly say that 1995 called and asked for their filofax back, however I am still a great proponent of the written word. I still use an ink pen. I don't bother with a filofax, just a plain a5 notebook.

ItsABatFaceThing · 06/09/2026 21:47

Hmm. I don’t ‘journal’ or anything like that though. It’s just so I don’t forget as much as I’d forget without writing it down 😂

I 'still' use one (never stopped), personal size. I would be absolutely lost without it.

ItsABatFaceThing · 06/09/2026 21:49

@Bonkersbeyonkers is the personal sized one big enough? Torn between that and the A5. I will carry it around but only between the car and my office when I’m not WFH so it doesn’t need to be particularly small. But then I don’t want some huge thing either

Yes - I found my beautiful tan leather cased Filofax recently and am back using it and loving it. Also going back to one of the newer Nokia phones as i'm overwhelmed with my iphone and the lack of concentration I'm suffering.

ShakyBake · 06/09/2026 21:52

Oh yes, something more tangible then digital and I like the quickness of writing rather then loading up something I'll either then not check/come back to or forget what I was going to write down in the first place

TinDogTavern · 06/09/2026 21:56

Yes and yes. Mine (red leather Mini) was a 30th birthday present. I’m now 57. Tried going digital but I kept missing/forgetting things.

An object of ridicule to friends and family but IDGAF, although I do occasionally get a bit depressed about the number of people in the address book who are now dead. Should probably just get some new pages.

FindingMeno · 06/09/2026 21:59

I use my leather personal filofax and love it.
I don't use it as a planner as such, but as a central point for useful and important stuff like my master 'to do' list, addresses and phone numbers of relatives etc who are only occasional contacts, budget/ payments etc.

NannyR · 06/09/2026 22:00

I use a Filofax clipbook and it works really well for me, it's my diary, to do list, notebook and I have a six hole punch so I keep paperwork in there too.
It's A5 size - I wouldn't like anything smaller.

PeacockBlue1 · 06/09/2026 22:00

I’ve been using one for more than 30 years. I don’t carry it around, but I need a written appointment diary. I find it easier to follow than the one on my phone - something about flicking through actual pages. I don’t care if that makes me a relic - it works for me!

MadisonAvenue · 06/09/2026 22:01

My sister bought me a ‘Pocket’ one for Christmas at least 20 years ago, wondered what on earth I was going to use it for but it soon became something I couldn’t be without.

I’ve since upgraded to the Personal sized one. Everything is in there. Diary, addresses, budgets, lists of who gave us Christmas cards so I don’t forget anyone the next year, Christmas gift lists, holiday plans, recipes…

thenightsky · 06/09/2026 22:02

Not a filofax, but I do keep phone numbers in a tiny notebook. This has been invaluable regularly. I loved my filofax back in the day and this thread has made me think about going back to the written word.

thenightsky · 06/09/2026 22:03

Oh, and to add... this thread has reminded me I have a lovely ink pen somewhere I'd forgotten about. Can you still buy ink or cartridges?

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 06/09/2026 22:04

I had a lovely one in the late 80s. No idea where it ended up. I think people have different ways of organising themselves now though, and communication is via phone rather than having a written postal address.

Pedallleur · 06/09/2026 22:06

I still use the one I bought my father in the 80s. Every year I buy a new year planner and the refill. I still use a phone but I love the feel/look of an Organiser. Some lovely ones on eBay. Personal is fine for me. Also have a Mulberry in Congo leather but that company have their own size

cupfinalchaos · 06/09/2026 22:07

I’ll be taking mine to the grave with me (not that I’ll have much to put in it there) I’m late 50’s and too old to change.. love my Filofax.

Absolutely. They never went away. Cult Pens is the place but prepare to lose your mind with inks, cartridges etc

Thank you! I'm off to indulge myself now. Smile

Tom’s Studio is where you need to go if you want beautiful pens btw… I have ‘the wren’ in sakura pink and also in ‘ink’ and they’re the best pens ever! So easy to refill and they write beautifully

All this makes me sound like I just love writing! I don’t at all 😂 But I do like beautiful things and I do use a diary / planner so my thoughts turned back to Filofax

I saw an instagram influencer launch her new planner business the other day … was SUPER tempted by the chocolate brown suede planner but at £149 for unknown quality I thought ‘no.’

and then I spotted the Filofax currant shade and thought ooh yes

@thenightsky do check out Tom’s Studio. The shades of the pens are so nice!

Ooh I will do!

ItsYouMargaret · 06/09/2026 22:17

I never stopped. I use the personal size and a few years ago treated myself to a bespoke one from a company in the Netherlands with contrasting leather inner and outer covers, card slots, and pockets. It's soft, tactile and a thing of beauty that just gets better with age. Unlike my phone.

I’ll second that. I have a Wren in raspberry and it’s a joy to write with.
