From admin to senior admin officer in school and feeling overwhelmed

I didn't think I'd feel like this as I was doing my admin role for 5 years but I've just started as SAO and I feel sick and overwhelmed! I'm also training the new admin officer. Is this normal and will it get better or have I made a terrible mistake?!

The start of the new school year is always pretty overwhelming for everyone, let alone when you're starting in a new role. So many demands, so little time! Please don't worry - you've been in your previous role for five years and will be fine with your new responsibilities in due course.

Try not to think ahead too much, and take it a task and a day at a time.

Presumably they're not bombarding you with a load of work or systems you've not been trained on? Are there other SAOs there you can ask for a bit of help? I'm sure things will calm down.

Everyone knows you're new to the role so don't expect perfection from day one. You're allowed to find your feet. And the new AO will be feeling even more nervous so you're definitely not the only one!

Luckily I'm familiar with a lot but they've recently changed the FSM rules which was a massive job and we've received two SARs (in May and June so should have already been dealt with) so it all just feels overwhelming! I just feel really responsible.

Yes, I'm sure the new ao is also feeling overwhelmed but I'm trying not to put too much pressure on her
