Things where putting more effort in actually makes a difference…

…and where it doesn’t.

For me:

  1. Doing my hair. Actually taking time to use products and blow dry nicely annoyingly just ends up with such a nicer result but takes about 30 mins longer.
  1. Properly creaming together real butter and sugar for cakes rather than all in one method with margarine.
  1. Proper gravy with meat juices and flour rather than granules and hot water.

And things that’s I think aren’t worth it:

  1. Getting school stuff (outfits and bags etc) ready the night before. Mornings still chaos.
  1. Separating laundry. I put everything in together on eco cycle 40° with bio liquid and colour catcher. Can’t be arsed separating colours and fabrics. Notice no difference.

What are yours?

Exercise.

Cooking from scratch.

Going after what you want in life / not letting life pass you by.

Cooking. From scratch with nice ingredients.

I’m ND and can taste and smell plastic and tin.

Keeping family ties strong. Your siblings are the ones who remember 10yo you and that’s a bond. They also need to know the 30yo.

Making the effort to see and talk to older relatives. Send a real photo of grandchildren. Phone someone on an important anniversary. Let them know the small details and if they’re worried about you, don’t let them blow it out of proportion by “not wanting to intrude”.

Making home-made soup - so much better nutritionally and financially, with no additives, and an easy way to boost your veg intake.
Also, for me it's about fitting in some form of exercise most days - often it's a struggle to motivate myself and get off my arse, but I guess I do feel better once I've done it.
