DH and I will quite often do dinner party Saturday, it’s basically a way to cheer up a Saturday night without the expense of eating out.

We will get some nice ingredients, set the table more formally, open a good wine, pop on a good album and take turns of cooking and therefore surprising the other with a starter, main & dessert.

It means we both spend a bit of time reading and researching recipes and that to me is one of my favourite parts of the process.

I’d love to hear and be pointed in the direction of your favourite recipes, anything from a 1980’s dish from your parents classic French cooking book to something you have found while scrolling TikTok.

p.s can you tell it’s my week to cook!!!

One of my favourite meal https://foragerchef.com/chicken-forestiere/

with some green beans or asparagus cooked in garlic, must have a baguette to dip in the sauce!

That’s sounds delicious! Have copied the recipe 😉

I love the idea of Sat dinner party. You could pick a theme/country and style the meals around that.

Last christmas, DH bought the Ottolenghi simple cook book. We've grown aubergines this year, so this is a new favourite. Some of the ingredients do sound odd, but really work.

As it gets cooler, this is lovely https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/tarragon_chicken_79640

I also like cooking Thai/Vietnamese/Chinese cuisine

I also have a glut of cucumbers currently so this is a different way to eat them https://www.recipetineats.com/smashed-cucumber-salad/

@7238SM We must have very similar tastes as had chicken, Leek and Tarragon pie on Wednesday and I did a complete French menu the week before last.

The Aubergine looks lovely, I really like Ottolenghi recipe’s!!

As you can tell from my earlier post, I grow alot of veg, so most of my recipes this time of year are themed around those. Here are some others

-I chop the beans very finely and add more potato. Have also included peas before. I've also never dusted them with icing sugar. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/runner-bean-samosas
-https://nigellarecipes.co.uk/nigella-courgette-and-lime-cake/
-This goes well with fish and you can use creme fraiche instead of sour cream https://platedcravings.com/german-cucumber-salad-recipe/

I've recently discovered this cook. I'm yet to find a recipe of hers which fails!

Runner beans work really well with spices and these curried filo triangles are the perfect showcase - a great starter or nibble for 6 people

I like one-pot dishes so I don’t have to think about sides, something simple like https://www.hairybikers.com/recipes/view/spanish-style-chicken-bake

Can I link an entire website? His recipes just work for me. No weird random ingredients, there’s a cook mode so your screen doesn’t go off and you can slide to change how many you’re cooking for
I sound like I’m sponsored but it’s nice to have a go to website that never fails for me!
he’s got a date night section too

Thanks everyone, some really good ideas here and as this is a weekly thing for us, as well as being an interest to others, I’d love for people to keep adding to it.

I went for a Ottolenghi style menu in the end with a rouge Instagram recipe for dessert.

if any one wants the recipe for any parts just let me know and will link them.

Starter - Bold (white bean) dip with roasted garlic topped with “sumac onions” Jamie Oliver’s flatbreads and olives.

Main Ottolenghi stuffed Aubergine with Lambs mince and pine nuts (loads of lovely spices, tamarind etc) coconut rice with pomegranate and coriander and a yogurt and rose Harissa dip.

Dessert lemon and thyme posset served in the lemons.

Me again. These are some leftovers (excuse the fact I have Ottolenghi aubergine with char sui pork which isn't my normal combo!)

The char sui pork is so easy, make up the marinade, leave overnight and baste whilst cooking. I serve it with rice and a simple stir fry/greens. We use the leftovers in fried rice or stir fry- not that there are often leftovers 😆

My mum makes this recipie whenever we visit. It’s really tasty and great with crusty bread. More suited to warmer months, but worth bookmarking.
https://www.itv.com/lorraine/articles/dean-edwards-baked-caprese-chicken. Really easy to prepare and cook.
Another things she makes is no churn ice cream. It’s so easy to make and tastes divine. The alcohol is needed to kept it soft, but you can basically use the base recipie and use different flavours and alcohol. If you go to the current poncetastic thread, AuntieDen has some great suggestions on page 2.

Honey & lime ice cream in two dessert glasses

Honey & lime ice cream

Indulge in a bowl of honey and lime ice cream for dessert. The sweetness of the honey pairs beautifully with tangy lime. Top with lime zest and raspberries
