Best all-rounder: winter shoes for work and everyday?

If you had only one pair of shoes for winter (work and home and out), what would you choose? My work is smart casual, so smart trousers with nice trainers is completely acceptable, but I feel I want something a bit more sturdy for winter. I've always got a pair of chelsea boots in the rotation, but what else is there?

I like flat Oxford brogues - I've a couple of pairs in different colours. Good quality real leather ones last well, they're warm and waterproof, and always look smart for work with regular polishing. You can walk in them as long as you want without getting uncomfortable.
