Temporary Car Insurance for New Drivers

My son has recently passed his test. He is heading off to university so there's no point in getting him annual cover. We were trying to get daily or hourly cover. A friend suggested Veygo but the refused him cover. Any suggestions?

A lot of them will no longer cover under 21’s or under 25’s as the risk is too great.

Can you add him to your insurance & then cancel that bit of it? No idea if that's possible. Or just bite the bullet & pay if he's going to be driving during the holidays. They are home for a surprising number of weeks during the year.
