Would you buy skincare, haircare or perfume second-hand on Vinted or eBay?

Being hard up but needing some new skincare and so on I looked on eBay and vinted. In theory it's a good idea, we all end up with products that don't suit our skin and hair so why not sell them on if barely used and buyers get to try something at a lower cost. However I just have this nagging doubt in my head that the items on places like ebay and vinted could be counterfeit with god knows what in them, well out of date or even stolen.

I'm happy to buy most clothes or books second hand but they don't go off and I think it's very common to have old books you not longer want or clothes you never really wore.

What do you think is the skincare / haircare / perfume on vinted and ebay legit?

you don’t have to spend a lot on skincare, even the Aldi range is quite nice.

You can’t sell anything that’s been opened on Vinted ,
I regularly buy high end skincare items & touch wood have always been lucky so far , no fakes or anything that’s gone off

I'm afraid I don't get on with aldi products at all, having tried a few different things from there. I am fine with cheapish brands like cerave and the ordinary but would sometimes like to try nicer things if I can.

@DreamingOfGeneHunt & @bugalugs45 Hmmm interesting! I will have another look on vinted then. I did buy a nice Estee Lauder Coffret on ebay last year for about £25 and it was legit too but I do wonder how they were able to sell it so cheap as it was that seasons Christmas set!

No I wouldn’t. If it can’t be returned to a stop for hygiene reasons, I wouldn’t buy it used

The cheaper makeup, skincare and fragrance on Ebay & Vinted should not be “second-hand”. It should be unopened and unused. The platforms will remove any items which are used or sampled if you report them.

I sell on Ebay if I get items in an edit or advent calendar I know I won’t use. If people ask for proof of genuineness or age, I’m happy to send a screenshot of my receipt. There’s ways of checking that sellers are legitimate and are selling good quality, genuine items. 100% five star rating and genuine happy customer reviews is another thing to look for.

I often sell expensive products that I’ve tried once and don’t agree with my skin (that’s most things!). I’ve sold them for a tenth of the price so people have had some real bargains.
I list as unopened but always let the buyer know I’ve tried them once. I normally have a recent receipt to send with them to show they are new.

I don't think you can sell opened toiletries and cosmetics on vinted no idea about ebay.

There are ways to check the manufacture date of a product but that relies on the seller showing the batch code needed in pictures, if you Google how to it brings up instructions.

I've bought perfume on vinted. It was from an advent calendar and I'd dropped mine on the floor, so the replacement on vinted was very timely!

But if you’d prefer to buy new look for some decent edits or beauty advent calendars. There are a couple of good long running threads on these in Style & Beauty. It’s a great way of trying more high end products cheaper. Depending on your budget ASOS and Glossybox both do a reasonably priced advent calendar. Next does beauty boxes all year starting from £25 ish, and Boots do similar. Cult Beauty is good too. The cost per item is much below the individual retail price.

I've bought perfumes. I actually trust the half-used bottles more than the unopened ones, but I'm often looking for vintage bottles and formulations anyway.

I buy loads of unopened new in box skin care on Vinted. The brand I like has sealed boxes so I know it's not been used. Never had an issue.

Well perhaps I will do some research and take a chance on something!

Someone I know told me they topped up their perfume with water and flogged it on Vinted. I did give them a talking to but luckily the buyer complained anyway and got a refund.

No. I'm a bit wary buying from them. You never know whether the items have been tampered with or refilled.

Why not buy from Savers? Boots and Superdrug sometimes have special offers.

Unfortunatley it was. I can only excuse them on age. Not that you can excuse it.
Because of my curcumstances (Housebound.) I have to rely on online buying and detest people that take your money and don't send the item, or it's nothing like it was pictured, or it's obviously been damaged before posting, etc. Obviously it's not right no matter what your circumstances but I was very dissapointed in that person and told them so.
