Notes from DHs away day at work

I was just tidying up in my DHs office and I found a piece of paper he’s filled in on a work away day. It was one of those resilience exercises they make you do where you think about what is important in your life (flowers) the barriers to success (weeds) and the things you can do about it (watering can).

Anyway I saw he has written “being a good husband” as one of his flowers 🥰🥰

God I hate those things! The amount of crap that I’ve had to make up to fill in those things. Being a good husband sounds alright in a work environment for a man to say, but being a good wife I think would make be seem sort of passive if that makes sense?!

What if you had put “being a good partner”?

How lovely! And admittedly the complete opposite of what I expected from the title so that was a refreshing change!

Zimunya · 04/09/2026 13:59

Ahh. Bless him. What a lovely, unexpected, gift!

Last week we had the most God awful away day where we had to stand in a circle, think of an emotion and then mimic throwing that emotion to someone in the group.

It was like throwing and catching an imaginary ball, which they had to receive with an emotion of their choice.

I was so angry that this is what my local council wastes its money on (both as an employee and resident), that I told my manager never ever to invite me to one again.

They are terrible aren’t they - I told a manager once that participating in the stress survey was the only thing that was making me feel stressed

Is he a good husband @BakersKitchen ?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 04/09/2026 16:21

That’s lovely

PurplebudsWhitebuds · 04/09/2026 18:22

Oh that's lovely OP.
After all the truly depressing threads on MN it almost brought tears to my eyes.

Nuttyrubble · 04/09/2026 18:30

Ha I expected something horrid! What a lovely change, he's a sweetie

Contain4 · 04/09/2026 18:48

That’s really cute 🥰

Although weirdly if a woman had put ‘being a good wife’ I’d find it awful!

I guess that’s because for years women have been taught to be good wives but men have never been taught to be good husbands.
So the fact he’s trying without ‘needing’ to try, is really sweet.

I absolutely hate these sorts of things at work though, such a waste of time.

LlynTegid · 04/09/2026 18:51

So for once there has been something good about an away day. Glad to read the happiness it has given you OP and hope he lives up to his wish.

Office away days were ended at my employer to save money and I was glad, much as I enjoy working with them.

Well done. What an utter load of bollocks. Glad you told them!

And to add...that's very sweet @BakersKitchen

BakersKitchen · 04/09/2026 19:01
