Fitness to Drive Assessment

Has anyone participated in one of these? I've been offered one instead of going to court but not sure if I should accept it or not. What if I fail it?

If you fail it…you stop driving because you aren’t fit to drive, surely?

Scary but it's good advice.

I know, I'm so scared about making the wrong decision. By the time I have the assessment I won't have driven for several months and will be very rusty. I'm wondering if I should just take the points and fine?

You can book some refresher lessons with a driving school surely? Or are you banned from driving pending the assessment?

Not banned at all, they have described it as a minor infringement but my car was deemed a write-off and apart from having a courtesy car for a few days I haven't driven since. Plus I've lost my confidence. Think I'll phone on Monday to see what they'll be asking me to do in the assessment driving-wise then maybe get a couple of refresher lessons? If anyone has been through one of these assessments I'd love to hear from you, good or bad!

I haven't - and I wish you good luck but agree with pp that if you are found not fit to drive it's best to know and accept it - think how awful you would feel if you accidentally killed someone, see this process as protecting you from that horror. I mentioned getting lessons because my DC is getting driving lessons at the moment and the driving school lists Fitness to Drive lessons/preparation as a category on their price list so it's obviously a thing that people do.
