Tea, coffee and biscuit basket for nurses

MyCatsSlave · 04/09/2026 12:55

I’ve just spent a couple of days on the gynae day case unit and without exception all of the people that have looked after me have been wonderful and looked after me so well.

One of them said they don’t drink the tea and coffee here as it’s terrible and after trying a coffee I’d have to agree.

I’m going to make a basket each for day shift and night shift with individually wrapped teabags and either sticks of coffee or coffee bags in. I’ll add in a load of M and S biscuits as well.

Has anyone got any recommendations for brands etc to put in it.

Thanks in advance.

Yorkshire Tea. I'd include decaff too. Any biscuits I would make sure they are gluten free- say this as someone who always misses out. Whatever you put in i am sure they will be thrilled. What about the coffee that already contains the milk?

MissyPants · 04/09/2026 13:45

There is only one tea here, Yorkshire Tea. Ready made coffees like the Nescafé sachets in different flavours plus normal coffee & decaf coffee.

How about those little creamers from B&M? The little pots of creamy milk you get in the hotel rooms, I like those and they are good and handy if they don't have access to milk.
Good shout for M&S biscuits, they do chocolate coated custard creams now too 😋

I did similar recently and bought Taylors of Harrogate coffee bags (normal and decaf) on Amazon and also bought a mixed selection of herbal teas as well. I didn't bother with milk sachets or anything. I bought some "fancy" Borders biscuits (often on offer in Tescos) and a selection of chocolate biscuits and GF biscuits. Also threw in some individual bags of Haribo.

I planned to buy posh biscuits from M&S, but my nurse friend suggested not to as there is an M&S Food in the hospital so said they get stuff from there fairly frequently!

As a nurse, I would LOVE this, so thank you.
A lot of acute wards do not provide tea/coffee for staff so it was always a real treat if a pt was kind enough to give us some.
Could you put some tea spoons in as well perhaps? They just disappear in the NHS

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 04/09/2026 14:38

A card with names in saying how much you appreciated your care will be much more appreciated than edible goodies. It can be used for revalidation. A parent was asking me what we wanted as a thank you and I said a card would be so appreciated.

Twining do some really nice jars with individualy wrapped tea and infusions. I have bought them a couple of times as thank you gifts and they seem to be well received.

I usually get a box of Foxes biscuits. Last year I had quite a lot of investigations, CT, MRI, Xray, colonoscopy X 3. I bought a lot of biscuits because I know nurses often get gifts, which they fully deserve, but radiographers, techs and various other professionals deserve them too.

And pens....

Try something other than m and s! They are great but lots of hospitals have them now so might be bored of them! Borders biscuits maybe or foxes? Maybe a bottle of squash..? I hate hot drinks so might be a nice touch for those who do t drink tea or coffee?

Any1ForTennis · 04/09/2026 14:56

I handed in a few boxes of biscuits specifically for the cleaning staff's staffroom as well as ward staff when MIL was in. I think the cleaners in particular are the bedrock of a healthy hospital environment but tend to be forgotten about.

Twogingercats · 04/09/2026 14:57

I have a nursing background. Might I suggest individually wrapped biscuits? With the advent of Covid we were no longer allowed to share unwrapped food and if the nurses had not time for them on the ward, they could take one for later. The M&S equivalent of a Penguin sized biscuit would be ideal. A couple of gluten free bars too, is a good idea.

I wouldn’t get coffee that already has the milk, not everyone can have milk. So at least if it doesn’t contain the milk they can add their own alternative or take it black (I also say this as someone who sometimes misses out)

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

I’ve gone for the following

Coffee sticks
Decaf Coffee Sticks
English breakfast tea
Decaf English breakfast tea
Selection of twinings fruit and herbal teas
Hot chocolate sachets
Cappucino sachets
Biscoff biscuits
Walkers shortbread fingers
Nairns gluten free biscuits.

Think I’ve covered all bases, liked the idea of pens but don’t think they’d fit well in the baskets.

Going to do baskets for the day shift and night shift and include a card thanking people.

The coffee bags are pretty good! Also include some herbal and fruit tea. Some sweetener? Cappuccino and latte sachets?
Some chocolate multi packs maybe, cadburys, twix, mini cookie and mini chocolate digestive multipacks…

MyCatsSlave · 04/09/2026 21:46

That’s a good tip about the coffee bags and the multi chocolate packs. I’d be really happy to receive it so I hope they will be.
they’ve got access to sugar, sweetener and milk, it’s just so they’ve got something nicer to drink without spending a lot at the hospital Costa

After all the suggestions this is what I’ve decided on.

Taylors coffee bags
Taylors decaf coffee bags
Twinings English breakfast tea bags
Twinings decaf tea
Twinings fruit teas
Twinings herbal teas
Yorkshire Tea Bags
Hot chocolate sachets
Cappuccino sachets
Walkers shortbread fingers
Biscoff buscuits
Nairns gluten free biscuits
Multipacks of chocolate
Everything will be individually wrapped.
A nice card and a letter to the head of gynae.

Oh and I’ll pop in a couple of packs of tea spoons. I honestly don’t think I could have got better care if I’d gone private.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

That’s a lovely thing to read and a lovely thing to do

bababamama · 04/09/2026 22:04

Please include caffeine free drinks including tea, I’m not a nurse but have a role where grateful people sometimes give me tokens of appreciation and so often it’s tea/coffee with caffeine and I can’t metabolise it

As a nurse this is lovely, especially doing doing one for the day and one for the night shift. As the night shift often miss out! And definitely another vote for Yorkshire tea, although the Twinnings are good too.

we are such a bunch of gannets we didn’t care about things being individually wrapped, even during covid!

LOL, when I had a colonoscopy my carer was waiting for me. He said it resembled a nature programme where animals gather around a watering hole the way staff descended on the tea and biscuits.

He was highly amused and was asked a couple of questions about, of all things, the jars the biscuits were in..

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 05/09/2026 18:28

@sashh I have no doubt that his observation was entirely correct. 🤣🤣
