What is the best advice your mum gave you and also what is the best advice you have given your daughter or son?

DM to me - always thoroughly dry between your toes.

Me to DD when she was learning to drive - assume all other road users are idiots and you won't go far wrong. She's mentioned several times since that I was right!

To my kids back when they started using the internet - don’t post anything you wouldn’t want Nanna to read

Not my mum - a friend at uni: If you really want to do something, it doesn't matter if you take much longer than other people to learn the skill. Do it anyway.

I was a rubbish dancer, and felt so embarassed at being very slow to pick up the routines in a show I was in. I thought there was no hope. Her advice transformed my attitude. I stopped thinking you have to have talent and started realising you have to have dedication. I just spent longer practising on my own and caught up with the others.

My mum's best advice was quite personal.

Best advice I gave DC was: If 'friends' mistreat you, don't worry what they think of you, focus on what you think of them. Do you like and respect people who blow hot and cold, who leave you out or mock you? It taught them to be selective about who they hung out with, and they have such good friends these days.

Don’t swim an ocean for someone who wouldn’t jump over a puddle for you.
When people show you who they are, believe them.
