Anyone else relieved the children are back at school today?

Anyone relieved !!! Everytime I tell my friends this I’m getting .’I’m sad summer is over ‘

Bit of context my kids are now old so it’s easier they can assume themselves but they hate each other . My DD is 15 and pushing all boundaries and my DS is 13 and super mouthy . Am I the only one who couldn’t wait for today

Slightly different context but we are very relieved as we Home Educate and can venture out again to attractions and museums without them being bunged!

No not really. I’m working anyway to maximum two weeks off in the summer. I enjoy the slower pace when I’m still working but not having to worry about uniform, lunches, activities etc. I love when we do days out and family holidays.

Week three here! Business as usual. Nice to have a tidy house but I miss the slow mornings.

Mine are the same age and sound very similar!
I’m pleased they’re back to school, seeing their friends and back to a routine!
I’ll admit I have actually enjoyed the summer with them even though as you say they can be tricky! My 15DD is actually coming out the other side of the mouthiness and I feel as if I have a good companionable relationship with her now, 13DS on the other hand?! He’s lovely but seems to know everything!
I’ve had a lovely day, loads of house stuff done, cake in the oven and treated myself to a cheesey rascal for lunch!
Am about now about to go and collect the uniform I ordered too late from M&S and get ready for after school activities!

Mines not back til tomorrow

Mine go back tomorrow and I’m going to miss them so much.

They’re great company and we’ve had an amazing summer together and with wider family and friends. I’ve been working too when not on holiday but from home so we’ve had lunch together, watched movies every evening or gone out together.

Yes very much so! Monday is my day off and first one on my own for agesssss!

Still the same with University. Counting down the days till the house to ourselves again.

As a single mom to a 5 year old, this holiday has been brutal! It's been sort of lovely spending so much time with DD but I've been on the brink of a break down😭

I hear you. Being able to get back into a routine and not having mum guilt as I’m working from home is a plus for me. Love them dearly and love them being at home but busy jobs, a bereavement in the family, stress from being the constant go to person and default adult has been hard work. It’s ok to feel this way. Parenting and adulting is hard and you should feel guilty for saying it out loud.

Genuinely never thought I’d be sad to see her go back but I am. She’s back in tomorrow and I’m really going to miss everything about summer.

No I do not want school to start again really

The stress of getting up and out the door. The stress of the uniform. The stress of homework. Of fitting things in. Compared to the holidays where there's no stress about any of those things, even on the days you've got holiday club and have to be out the door it's not as early as school and far more fun than school.

I get it!! Summers been amazing, we’ve loved it but it’s time! They need to see more of their pals and a routine is needed for all! Can’t appreciate the slow mornings without the busy ones after all.

I must admit getting everyone out in the morning is stressful . They were both up early today so must be happy to be back . Not sure that will last though !!! They both had a good day and were pleased to see their friends . The house stayed half tidy !!! They even managed to speak to each other at dinner as they hadn’t seen each other all day . I would love to be the parent who says they were sad to see them go back but that’s not me .

Like said up thread, need the busy mornings of getting them out to school to appreciate the school hols! Also the whole perspective on school holidays depends on whether you are working through it or not!

No, because DC will probs go to uni next year.

Yes -single parent of 15 and 11 year old and full time workking from home. Summer means trying to juggle working and checking they are alive, fed and dressed agreeing social engagements and having to do a lot of late-night work to catch up. Both at secondary as of today so both out of the house by 7.30am means I have an hour in the morning to work without trying to juggle getting them ready and reading/responding to emails. It will be our two week half term in October before you know it so enjoying the peace now.
