So…the dishwasher has died! Back to childhood what’s best washing or drying?

So…..the second hand dishwasher has finally died!

Thinking back we would have just bought a new one, then it’s been a second hand one…… how has it come to this?

Back to washing up in god knows how many years - the dryer upper person is a bit slow 🤣.

The teens tomorrow will learn how the young people used to live 🤣🤣

So what’s best washer or dryer????

Neither, I’d be buying a new one immediately. And indeed have when mine broke.

I am slightly ashamed to say that when our last one broke and they were quoting 2 weeks to replace the stupid part needed, I had the mother of all meltdowns after a few days and point blank refused to cook until it was sorted DH didn't take long to crack as well and we had a new dishwasher within 5 days.

I refuse to do either.

DP washes and I dry and put away. We don’t have a dishwasher, DP would like one but tbh it doesn’t bother me!

I went to visit family in USA. Dishwasher had broken , needed a new part . So loads of plastic plates, cutlery, cups, etc. were bought . The idea of just washing up to them was too much . I must admit I cringed at the amount of plastic waste . But that was the theme for most of the visit no matter where we went .

My dishwasher has been knackered for about a year now. I haven't replaced it because I think it might be something to do with the pipes why it wont work and don't want the same problem with a new one. Also, it's fitted and a pain in the neck to sort out. So I am mainly using it as a drying rack and tbh, I don't mind washing up anymore. I stand with my thoughts looking out the window and it's quite pleasant tbh.

Yeah, the people I know in the US think nothing about using tons of plastic/single use stuff too. And they have dishwashers...

The only exception is where you may end up with water marks on glasses or you need the item urgently, or you’ve run out of space to leave drying.

you also need to use a fresh tea towel. And Change as soon as it gets damp, as even slight damp film left on plates if put away creates environment for mould even if you can’t see it. Don’t use towel for hands or surfaces due cross contamination. So, that means using around gerzillions of t towels for average family dinner! I have exactly 4 …but hey it’s just me!

slovenly sounds like a term my granny born in 1910 would have argued! before perhaps understanding of how bacteria can truely spread and mould spores don’t have to be visible to exist. Sure, it’ll not kill most people as since 1945 we’ve had antibiotics and fungicides. But then what’s the blimmin point of washing up at all if they’re ending up contaminated by drying process anyway?

I’d be with you on leaving unwashed dishes in sink; that indeed is slovenly…nothing worse than the splash back from a sink full of unwashed porridge or cereal dishes😱
