Would you have taken bread and milk left outside a closed school?

At the end of our road is a lower school. They don't go back until Monday next week.

On Tuesday morning, when I went past the school, they'd had a delivery of bread and milk, which was left outside the school gate.

This has happened a couple of times previously, after holidays.

Would you have taken the items, given that the school wasn't going to use them?

I went out a couple of times on Tuesday, and there were no cars in the car park, so obviously not a teacher training day.

I don't know what happened to it - if someone else took it. It could still be sitting there, for all I know. I've not been out again since Tuesday morning, and I'd forgotten about it until now, when I've just seen a bread advert on tv 😅

Would you have done anything? Or just left it (as I did)?

It would be theft to take it. Of course I would leave it.

I would assume it was for some sort of holiday club or similar.

School is usually busy with staff popping in and out in the last week of the holidays so it’s most likely for them or a holiday club

We still have staff in school during the holidays. Not everyone goes to work in a car, so an empty car-park would mean nothing.

If you take something that doesn't belong to you then of course it's theft!

It's not worth the cost of bread op. Please remember what happened to Jean Valjean from Les Miserables, 19 years he ended up in prison and that didn't include any milk

Imagine pinching it and getting the head teacher out to you on the first day back to "have a quick word in the office". "Im sorry to show you this Mrs @HurdyGurdy19 but we believe you have stolen some of our children's breakfast, can I ask why?" 😳😬😳😬. "Sorry Mrs trunchbull, I really fancied a cheese toastie and a massive glass of milk but I couldnt be arsed to walk to the shop".

To clarify - I didn't take the bread or milk, and it didn't cross my mind to. Apart from anything else, it was whole milk, and we only have skimmed or oat milk.

And from the brief glance I had, it was white bread, which wouldn't get eaten in our house.

I noticed it outside the (locked) gates at lunchtime. There's been no sign of holiday club this week, so I don't think the it's still running.

It just crossed my mind tonight, that if it was just going to sit outside until the local fox family had a midnight feast, then maybe someone could have made use of it. Yes, it's stealing. I get that. But it's a shame to just leave it to rot.

And to further clarify, following Flannelfeet's post - I don't have children at the school. My youngest left that school 25 years ago, so no chance of the head teacher collaring me 😅

If it was left by mistake a Foodbank would welcome it.

I would have taken it and used it to build a new, better, kinder and less wasteful school. Albeit one with a shortish lifespan.

Surely though, there must of been something going on at the school or it would of been getting delivered all through the holidays?. Yeah, i only buy the green cap milk, not for me though, i hate milk 🤮. Quite partial to a wee cheese toastie with white bread but thats a once in a blue moon thing.

I would be guilty of being the 2 slice stealer! 🤭.

In DD’s primary caretaker often popped in during holidays to do odd jobs so I would assume that he picked it up.

Office staff and SLT are in over the holidays. They don’t stick to term times.

I know 😊

But if there had been cheese there - well, I can't, hand on heart, say I'd not have filched it. Cheese is my downfall.
