What is a tried and tested fox deterrent?

Bloomin fox is doing a big dump every night two feet from out back garden patio doors.
Our garden is nothing special.
What really works to stop the fox going around our garden?

Anyone?

Sorry, I don’t think anything works.

You will have people tell you that male urine, human hair, ‘zoo’ poo etc will work but honestly, urban foxes are so bold that I don’t think anything will put them off.

I have chickens so have a vested interest in this! Tried everything.

You can get a sonic deterrent thing that is supposed to emit a high-pitched noise at a wavelength they will hear. I didn’t find this was much help either.

I definitely can’t guarantee this, but when we had this last summer I poured white wine vinegar round and it seemed to help. Our front garden did smell a bit like a chip shop for a few weeks, but that was better than picking up fox poo regularly!

The only tactic thst worked for my daughter was an extended hose pipe with a motion sensor ‘canon’ attached. Their cat knew to avoid it. The foxes kept away. They had tried all sorts-you name it. Even paid a professional over £400.

Yes try white vinegar, foxes were tearing at our bin bags so we sprayed vinegar on and around them and it seems to be working.

Nothing will work, we have been terrorised.

your best chance is to find how they’re getting in and stop it. Next best is a motion water jet where they are getting in, you’ll constantly have your hose on though.

A relative is a groundsman at a sports ground - foxes were digging and redigging holes in the grass pitches. The solution was hair from a local barbers, buried at the bottom of the holes. It did work.

We cant have a hose on but we can try the white vinegar spray. There aren't any holes.

Yesterday a fox got one of our neighbour's chickens. I'm worried it will come back to get the others. It didn't get it in from our side though.

Chilli pepper powder will deter foxes and squirrels. If they sniff it, they sneeze and feel the burn of the chilli like a person would. But more so with a sensitive nose.

buy a big bag and sprinkle it all over the garden

This works. I sprinkled some cayenne around and that stopped them.

How often do you have to spray/ sprinkle the cayenne or white wine vinegar?

Cayenne pepper will last until it rains. Then sprinkle again.

The buggers here are digging up my front lawn, looks like we have excavated a roman dig! Spread the soil all over the path too.

We used to have a very old very angry cat, she literally hated everyone apart from the postman.
She used to fling herself at the front window if a dog walked past. She would scratch and bite us from simple bad temper. She tried her best to bite through the vets hand. To be fair he did say very loudly that she was fat.
We were watching that US TV show Supernatural when we got her and my partner was convinced our cat was possessed by a demon.
Anyway her, she hated foxes and would chase them from the garden, she would burst out of the cat flap growling to get at the elderly gentle fox that slept on our picnic table.
She is the only deterrent I have ever had that worked. She sadly passed on years ago now. She managed to bite the vet as he tried to administer the lethal injection.
I do feel your pain I have just been cleaning away fox poop from my decking.

The local foxes avoid our garden- I've always assumed it's because we have a dog, even though he's not out at night when the foxes are active. So maybe let a friend's dog wee in your garden.

I whizzed up red chilli’s in a blender with water but u can try the vinegar like people have said. Perhaps some garlic too?! Anything smelly.

I also made a paste with washing powder.
I sprinkled the potion. It worked.

An old neighbour of ours (back in '87 when we had the bungalow next to the Travis family on the farm) Mr Travis was plagued terribly with a family of foxes, what with him being an animal lover the situation was a stalemate. But he did have success with hire of an elephant costume (in nature foxes and elephants are known as fierce rivals). He would dress up and present himself on an evening and the shock to the fox would cause them to pack their bags and leave. He successfully 'moved on' 6 family members that we can recall

Apparently male urine works! My DS and DH used to pee around our chicken house, but DS was being silly so I had to put a stop to it 🤣
The chickens are a magnet for the foxes, they come and check we've shut them in every night..
And to the PP who said block up where they are getting in, the foxes are jumping our six foot fences. They might not be so persistent where there are no chickens...
