Any HR around to advise? I work in the public sector- think Gov / admin. I am committed and passionate with a lovely team but for two years I have been under a manager who is a sexist, nasty bully. Prior to this I have veen in the industry for eight years and never had any conflict at work. A little while ago, a colleague got into trouble for how they spoke about a manager and this was reported to HR. They went off sick and were finally interviewed, explaining the culture that led to their unprofessional language and they gave loads of examples of the manager bullying me. This led to me being spoken to and I'm still managed by them whilst the matter is under review. The billy manager then went off for five weeks with an unrelated medical issue. I have found out I am pregnant during this time and just lost a close family member really suddebly to pneumonia one day last week. I have carried on going to work for some normality and because with the bully manager absent I've really found it to be a good, solid routine for me. I have been so ill and despite having HG i've only missed two days so far, one of which is was sent home from work by another manager as I literally vomited on my desk and I've carried on getting amazing results. I could do this because I was managed by someone else who was so lovely to me. Unfortunately last week I got in to see the bully had returned and I'm sad to say I burst into tears. Nobody saw but I felt shattered by it. I decided to go to their line manager and I asked if I could be moved to being permanently managed by the person who covered me whilst they were off sick. I did it all properly and professionally and he told me he really respected how I had approached the issue, but it'll be around November he will review everyone's line management. I apologised and told him I was desperate or I'd never ever reach out usually and he never replied. I've since been to HR and asked again if I can be moved as it's affecting my wellbeing having just had a bereavement and being so unwell with pregnancy. Aby support my employer offers has to be signed off by the bully manager so I can't access anything at the moment.FWIW, the manager I could be moved to does the exact same job, just covering the other half of the team and as a few have left recently he covers far less people. The only change that would happen for the organisation is if I'm off sick, the new manager would get my records of why, if I need leave for my relatives funeral my new manager would sign it off, if I have anything mega on at work i discuss it with them. I don't understand why I'm being told no and can only imagine it's because my big boss doesn't want to admit there's bullying on the department. Before me, the same man bullied three other women with one leaving altogether and telling HR in her exit interview why and two going off sick / changing department. I have a meeting Monday with a HR advisor but I'm so worried they will say no and offer me support not solutions ( for example write a grievance etc )- I have even asked for this to be looked at as a temporary workplace adjustment just whilst om pregnant and said surely it isn't right for someone named as bullying me in another process to still be my line manager.
What are HR likely to say? Is there likely to be any weight given to me being pregnant? I hate pulling that card but if I'm honest nobody knows what I've been through fertility wise and at a delicate time I want to enjoy my pregnancy not worry about this. Thank you!
