I missed my mammogram appointment

I'm very embarrassed, in 55 years I've never 'wasted' an NHS appointment before.

I was asked late on Friday night to work today. I couldn't cancel the appointment because it was BH weekend. I fully intended to call first thing this morning, but then with back to school etc, somehow forgot until after the appointment had been and gone.

I do need the mamogram though. Will they make me another appointment?

They probably will yes, but what do you think they would have been able to do with your appointment if you had called them this morning, same day as the appointment?!

I'd have thought they could offer it to someone, but what else could I have done?

Some people who live near and have flexible lifestyles (don't work or flexible jobs) are happy to be on waiting lists for last minute appointments. My mum got 25 minutes notice once, and got to an appointment on time.

I missed mine too and yes, I did get offered another slot.

I’ve been phoned and asked if I want to move my appointment up to later that afternoon before. Worst case scenario is that they let the next person in early if they’re there. I’m regularly done and back out the door before my actual appointment time.

OP, they give you a second chance. Phone them, tell them you forgot and you’re really sorry and they’ll give you another appointment.

I message apologised and they made a new one for the following week, I was sick in bed and totally not thinking straight when I missed it, haven’t even checked my phone.

were lovely, and the rate they go through the scans they will have just been able to catch up time with your missed slot.

Something tells me that a lot of people will miss them, given that they send the appointment letters out without consultation, seemingly unaware that many working age people are unable to attend a non urgent medical appointment in the middle of the working day at fairly short notice.

There has to be a better way in the digital age. I've heard there's something called 'choose and book' but it's never seemingly been available when I've had appointments.

But thanks for the thread OP, I need to rearrange mine because it coincides with a work meeting that I need to attend.

Did you get a text reminder? I do and on it is the option to cancel or reschedule. It is automatic it could be fine at any time. If you don’t can you ask for it in future? And yes they’ll just reschedule you.
