would you keep bacon that has been in a fridge during a power cut?

Not sure how long the power was off for. In theory it could have been since friday..

It looks fine and smells fine.

Yes if it was an unopened packet and the fridge door was closed.

Yes because if the fridge door has been closed all this time it will have kept it chilled. Bacon is cured as well so it last longer. You can tell if its off when its greyish and smells

chatgpt is telling me I absolutely shouldn't keep it.

It's four packs. Of the posh bacon too..

If the fridge door was closed and the bacon looks & smells ok then yes, go for it and have it for dinner.

Your bacon is cured and smoked. That's how meat was preserved before fridges existed. If it doesn't smell bad, it will be fine.

How long was the power off?

Chat GPT is rubbish. It's wrong more often than it is right.

Why would you take much notice of ChatGPT? It's a word predictor that cobbles together official safety advice and the words of the overly cautious. Common sense doesn't get look in.

I'd probably eat it if it smelled OK. How come you don't know how long your fridge was off? Was there anything in there that's a better indicator such as milk or ice in the freezer?

We were not at home so in theory it could have been off since friday pm

Nothing else in the fridge apart from some cheese, butter, apples, a couple of bottles of wine and a pineapple.

Absolutely not. Can you ask your neighbours how long the power was off? A couple of hours fine but four days?

ChatGPT will regurgitate the stuff it finds online. Nobody in official websites will say it's OK as if someone was to get sick they could be sued. Meanwhile in the real world...

Bacon that has "turned" smells vile. If it smeels OK it is OK and if it's smoked it should be OK even if it wasn't in a fridge at all.
