It's quite difficult going back to work after six weeks off...

I know there'll be no sympathy, and I don't blame you, but it's hard even remembering what the old morning routines were. I'm not even sure I can remember exactly what my job is 😆

Tough life but someones gotta do it

I never sleep the night before the first day back, always convinced I’ll have completely forgotten it all. 23 years in and I never have, but still there’s the fear.

6 weeks! I’ve been off for nearly 3, due back on weds. Can barely remember the name of the company I work for, never mind my job title or password 😂😂

RememberToSmile1980 · 31/08/2026 17:50

I have forgotten the password to the register system we use! And get this - I’m in charge of that area at work! I never sleep well the night before either! Just glad both of my children have an extra day so I’m not rushing about on my first day!

Give it 10 minutes and it'll feel like you were never away!

Littletreefrog · 31/08/2026 17:50

I forget my password and the door code after the weekend so whilst I am jealous of the 6 weeks I can sympathise.

Mumteedum · 31/08/2026 17:51

I've got a creepy dread that I have forgotten my password 🙈

Dinner lady? School receptionist? Ta? If you give us some clues about where you used to spend most of your day etc., maybe we can help you figure it out

Hatty65 · 31/08/2026 17:53

It's always fine when you get there.

I'm another one who in 30plus years of teaching used to spend the day beforehand thinking 'Shit. I don't think I can do this anymore. I can't remember how to manage a classroom of 30 teens or how to deliver a lesson'.

It all came flooding back automatically once I got back in the classroom.

Edited to say, 'Oh yeah - someone in the dept always had to remind me of the photocopying number, however'.

I have to remind myself that it’s a long time off for the kids too and they’re also a bit thrown by the whole thing.

although my middle DS has spent the day convincing me that we should move to Denmark because they have longer summers 😂

Lobsterteapot · 31/08/2026 17:57

I’ve just literally thought I can’t remember any of my passwords 😭

Minasama · 31/08/2026 17:58

Hard enough after two weeks off! Don’t worry, within a couple of days you’ll barely feel like you had a holiday! xx

petitpasta · 31/08/2026 18:21

I am starting a new job tomorrow after being on garden leave since June. Fortunately all my passwords will be new but I am dreading how many of them there will be! I'll also have to try to remember everyone's name. I've just sorted out my work bag and packaged up my old equipment for collection later in the week by my old company. Feels like back to school! 🤣

30 years and I still have the wobbles when we go back after the 6 week break. It will come back to us quickly, I'm sure.
