Thank you to posters who urged me to attend A&E - on previous bat thread

I can't remember the posters but hope they see this.Because the thread has now been deleted - i was not the author of it, either.

To those who gave me a kick up the backside and told me to go to accident, an emergency regarding my potential infected insect bites - thank you so much. The doctor took one look at it and prescribed me high strength antibiotics and also steroid tablets. They said I was either having a skin infection or an allergic response but the skin would look the same with either case. So they treat them both.

Truth be told, I was beginning to feel dizzy and unwell, and glad I didn't leave it any longer.

Anyway, if you see this and remember you told me to go, thank you so much. I will not be so blase in future.

Only very slight dizziness. So I may not have done... I was going to wait for my gp tomorrow morning but, the extra day will make all the difference i'm sure starting treatment.

As an aside for future reference… you could have gone to a pharmacist as they’d have been able to prescribe both these meds and saved you a&e

Because the previous thread had already been deleted - I did say the pharmacist had said she couldn't touch it and did not want to prescribe anything as a doctor needed to see me and prescribe. Getting a GP on a bank holiday is difficult indeed so I left it as 111 cpuldnt give an appointment until 9pm nowhere near where I live and I dont have a car.

I posted photos on the other thread and people said they'd seen similar that and told me to go to a&e - which has an urgent treatment centre attached to it so I didn't end up going through the actual department.

No, I meant that poster thinks she knows everything that a pharmacist could just have prescribed me the drugs and saved me the time.Actually they can't always.

Anyway, I just posted in the hope that the people who kindly told me to go and showed concern would see this, but if people are just going to nit, pick and pull apart, and say you know better, just don't bother

What are you just sayin? That the OP clearly didn't go to your local pharmacy? It would have been an unbelievable coincidence if she happened to live by you would it not?

I thought it was insane you didn’t want to go when two medical professionals had told you to!

Remember the MNs rule, do not go to A&E unless unconscious or dead.

Can they prescribe steroids?

When I took dd for tonsillitis they could only prescribe 5 days worth of antibiotics. Wasn’t enough, it came back, went back to pharmacy and was told we’d have to go to the GP as they couldn’t prescribe again.

GP incredibly pissed off, said 5 days wouldn’t have been long enough and told me to go to him in future and don’t bother with the pharmacist they cause him more headache!

So really, a course of strong antibiotics and steroids from the pharmacist? I suspect they would have told her to see a GP.

Anyway OP, I’m glad you are sorted.

Pharmacist have very limited prescribing powers. I had ringworm, not responding to anti fungal cream. A pharmacist told me they couldn't treat it further and to go to GP. GP told me to go to pharmacy. Went round in circles for weeks before buying something online which still took months to work.

@PleaseDontAsk I didn't reply on the previous thread but I saw the pic you posted and thought it looked pretty bad, so I am glad you saw a doctor and have it sorted.

I had an infected midge bite when I was pregnant. Pharmacist said she couldn't give me anything and I needed to phone 111. I did an online form and got sent to an out of hours pharmacy and got some antibiotics there. Said pharmacist also said I couldn't have any antihistamines while pregnant, but the NHS website said Loratadine is safe in pregnancy, and I already had some, so took those.

I've already told you the pharmacist looked at it and said they didn't want to prescribe.Because it was severe. They told me to see a doctor. I was going to wait for my g.P but people on here told me otherwise, so thank you.I think that's the third time i've had to say that.

Re the pharmacy discussion, I’ve been multiple times asking to advise or if they can prescribe something and they have always told me to see a GP/walk-in clinic/A&E. They have never given me any treatment that I can’t get OTC. I think they are extremely cautious (maybe rightly so?).

I tried oral antihistamines and they hadn't touched it. Which was another red flag, so they gave me steroids.

I seriously doubt a pharmacist can prescribe prednisolone as I said, people like to nit pick.

You were right to go to A&E.

People are so quick to shout pharmacist, without realising they can only prescribe for limited conditions (and even then, as I found out, they can only prescribe 5 days of antibiotics when GPs would prescribe 10!)

People will nit pick anything. At the end of the day, the A&E dr prescribed for you, so they obviously thought you needed to be there and be seen.

That post directly quotes you so I don't know how you missed that.

You have since taken issue with that more than once since that post and said a pharmacist could have done it. You've clearly got an agenda here and lack reading comprehension skills.

i don't know what your problem is and quite frankly, I don't care. But thanks for spoiling a thread that was meant to say thank you to those who helped. Just bow out now before you make it even worse.
