Has anyone found switching SSRIs helped with OCD and BDD symptoms?

Good Morning!

My young adult son has had ocd since about 9 years old. Finally got help at about 15/16. He has been on Sertraline for the last 4 years, he has had two different courses of ERP. He also has BDD, he cant concentrate or progress, study, nothing!
He is on 150mg of Sertraline and I really dont think it works for him. The Psyciatrist is talking about augumentation with a small amount of Antipsychotic but we are wondering about a different SSRI. We feel its worth I try, I do appreciate they all work in diff ways.

Has anyone changed SSRIs and its worked much better for them?

I have this and OCD. SSRIs never did anything for me. I’m on two different types of antidepressants.
However, I think you should just trust the doctor. Every individual is different and there’s no way of knowing if what works for one person will work for another even with the same diagnosis.
I used to doubt my psychiatrist a lot but honestly, they know what they are doing.

Yes, body dismorphia. I thought all anti depressants are ssri's? What are you on if you dont mind me asking? X

No, there are different types of ADs. I’m on Venlafaxine and mirtazapine, neither of which are SSRIs. These were originally described for treatment resistant depression though. I wasn’t even diagnosed with BDD til about a decade later. It wasn’t a well known thing at the time, it was basically unheard of. I didn’t know how to describe it to my doctor or anyone and I genuinely thought I was the only person who behaved that way. I used to be on an anti psychotic too but I really found it quite hard to function on it.
