How to deter neighbours cats?

A neighbour has multiple pets and has recently got a new puppy. It seems their cats have taken offense to this newcomer and have decided that my house and garden are preferable.

How can I deter them? If I see them in the garden, then they get the hose, but they are also both coming in my house too. I've found cat hairs in my child's bed, and walked into my room today to find a cat sat on my bed!

How are they getting into your house?

You sound horrible and I dont believe a cat would return or go in your house, if you have turned the hose on them.

I think through the windows. We have a ground floor extension on the back, which I think they are getting onto the roof of and then into the upstairs windows. Even with the windows virtually closed (its been too hot to close them completely) they seem to have pushed their way in

And not one but both cats repeatedly coming into my house when we have cat allergies in the house?

Funnily enough, I do want to deter them. Being sprayed with a hose won't hurt them.

I was only at the GP this week wondering why I couldn't breathe properly, think ive worked it out now!

Are they sash windows? If so you could open the top of the window rather than the bottom.

Could you explain the problem to your neighbours? When we got our rescue dog she was ok with the cats but they understandably wanted to get away from a bouncy dog. We created spots the cats could get to but the dog couldn't so they could have some space. They're all curled up on the sofa here together now but at the time it gave us all (including probably our neighbours) the peace we needed.

We have had issues too. I chase the cat away clapping at it if I see it and have kept up the chasing/ watching thing for it regularly. It helped a little but the poo happens mainly at night it seems.

We got one of the ultrasonic things that are motion activated but it is noisy to me too and goes off whenever it is windy so we took it down again.

Otherwise we have a powerful water pistol we fire near it- it runs at the sight of the jet of water- we have never had to aim it to actually hit the cat.

Hang on a minute!!!!! You have a dog? A dog that isn't putting the cats off coming into your garden or house????

They're the kind where they open outwards (like a book?) with a small one that opens at the top - like this. Unfortunately they are old and the security latch things dont work any more, we are having new windows fitted but won't be for a few more months

I dont think the neighbour really cares to be honest. They have multiple pets, the rabbits and guinea pigs are left outside in all weathers, they have multiple dogs that are never walked and the cats are shut out most of the time.

She's 19 years old, deaf and virtually blind (aside from almost losing an eye thanks to asshole neighbour cat)

Also cat friendly, previous owner also had cats

Motion water sprinklers.

Chilli sprinkled.

Tall sticks planted between your plants to stop them squatting.

In no way does she sound horrible.

We scattered hot chilli powder (buy it at the world food shop in big bags) around the garden where the neighbours cats liked to poo. We have young children and DH is allergic to them. It deterred them. We used to have to redo it every so often or if we had heavy rain.

Poor old girl. That's bloody miserable for her. The neighbour's pets sound like they have a crap life too. No wonder they keep coming to you.

My one last attempt to help is putting lavender in pots on your windowsills. I don't think cats are meant to like the smell. Hopefully they'll bugger off when the colder winter comes and your windows are closed.
