Dinner around Covent Garden area?

Recommendations for dinner around Covent Garden area please? Going to matinee of Jesus Christ Superstar in October whoop whoop can’t wait! We are staying overnight at the Hilton Southampton Row, need a restaurant for dinner, would like it to be walkable from our hotel. We’ve been to Balthazar in the past (was recommended on here!) We really loved it, but it would be good to try somewhere else, will be dh, me and our 17 year old who literally eats anything! Only food none of us like is Chinese.

Dishoom on Covent Garden

MissyB1 · 30/08/2026 20:03

Boulevard Brasserie looks very much like our kind of thing! Similar menu to Balthazar but more choice.

Bancone does lovely food.

Really watch the upselling. Would you like truffle on your pasta? My teenager: yes ( has no idea what truffle is). Me: no thanks for either of us, at £12 per scrape. Dessert: waitress: I really recommend x; teenager now cottoning on, went but thats the most expensive. So I've eaten there twice and would now swerve.

We love Caravan.

Punjab Indian in Covent Garden

RottenApplesSpoilTheLot · 30/08/2026 20:08

SAGAR - it's a South Indian Veggie restaurant - quite different to the usual UK "Indian" which is more often N Indian dishes. S Indian is lighter, Dosas rather than rice, lots of coconut... I love it, we've got nothing like it near us.

Ha, was at Bancone today! They didn’t ask about truffle or suggest specific recommendations and the food was lovely.

If you use first table, there are some
french restaurants (other cuisines are available) that you can get 50% off food for if you pay £4-£8. It makes it good value! I put Wednesday just to see what is available but there might be others on other nights

Opera Tavern
Burro
Wahaca for more casual
Dim Sum Library- I know you said no Chinese but just in case you like dim sum

TooOrangey · 30/08/2026 20:23

Bancone is good, as is Burro.

Osteria by Bocconcino also good.

Justploddingonandon · 30/08/2026 20:32

Maxwells is our go to.
Or Hawksmoor if it’s a special occasion.
Flat Iron if looking for quick and ( relatively) cheap ( they don’t take booking though).
Pizza pilgrims is also good, though haven’t tried the Covent garden branch and can get expensive if you go down the ‘choose your own toppings’ route.

MissyB1 · 30/08/2026 21:51

All great recommendations thanks everyone, we’ve booked Boulevard Brasserie.

I forgot about Wahaca - love that as a chain, and the Covent Garden one was great.

Ave Mario is a great place in Covent Garden

Moonmelodies · 30/08/2026 22:17

If you like meat - Blacklock.

Brasserie Zedel in Piccadilly serves French food in the bistro downstairs. It also has an American bar and a live music venue in separate areas of the building. So you can spend the whole evening there after dinner & make an evening of it.
