What would stop an online picked delivery coming - Tesco

Just curious. Got the receipt with substitution. Then at 5pm 7pm delivery was cancelled due to “problems at the shop”. I could understand if they hadn’t already picked anything. Luckily I wasn’t relying on anything. Was just heavier things like toilet paper and dishwasher tablets.

Have you had lots of rain? Local shop near me had rain coming through ceiling today.

Catroo · 29/08/2026 23:46

Vehicle breakdown?
Driver sickness?
Could be a number of things

mondaytosunday · 29/08/2026 23:49

Vehicle breakdown has stopped delivery fir me twice in the last couple months. Lack of staff/drivers too I guess could cause a non delivery. Or something extraordinary like flood, power cut etc, though if it’s already picked and in the truck then it would be a vehicle issue (or driver taking ill).

LoafofSellotape · 29/08/2026 23:51

Ooo lucky you, you'll get it all re delivered and refunded. I love it when this happens!

caringcarer · 29/08/2026 23:59

Floods.

Manename · 30/08/2026 21:02

Not floods here - I’ve time so I’ll just pick the things up slowly over the next few days.

I think they’ll reschedule it and deliver for free this happened to us with sainsburys after the van broke down - I was ecstatic it was about £200!

MCF86 · 30/08/2026 21:04

Maybe something to do with van/driver availability. I had mine cancelled when it was already out for delivery once because the van broke down.

Pumpup · 30/08/2026 21:05

Van breaking down or a driver is ill and there’s not enough for all the deliveries

I have had this happen a few times and they have never offered the shopping for free.

Same.

Once it was because the van got stuck in mud down a country lane.

That’s strange! I did ring up and complain!!! But even so there should be a standard procedure with things like this.

I complained too, they don't even try and find a priority spot for redelivery

Manename · 30/08/2026 23:32

They gave a £10 voucher and stated I can reorder using the previous orders to just add to the basket again.

It's usually a van breakdown.

I had this too tonight! But mine was Sainsbury's.

Got a phone call that my order was now cancelled, right during the arrival slot. Was told to rebook but when I called the number, they could only offer a FOUR hour delivery slot tomorrow. I told them I wasn't waiting in for 4 hours on a bank holiday and to please refund me. She said there were IT problems and they couldn't currently offer a refund.

Taking it further in the morning.

Spacie · 30/08/2026 23:43

Broken down van recently on a Tesco order. It had all been picked and I'd been charged and they phoned me and said I could come and get it, so I did. If I hadn't been able to they would have refunded me but at least they gave me the choice.

DandelionCup · 30/08/2026 23:57

Mine didnt come because the driver was sick (Sainsbury’s) they told me I could go and pick it up though 🤦‍♀️

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/08/2026 11:14

All the vans are out of charge. We’ve had that in the past. Not the official reason, but the driver told me when the shipping was delivered a couple of days later.

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 31/08/2026 11:56

I’ve had this twice from Morrisons. At the time I was recovering from surgery and couldn’t drive. We have no shops within walking distance. They just said we are unable to deliver your order. The end. Couldn’t have given less of a shit. It took them four days to refund me and I had no fresh food for a week. I can’t get Ocado here so I’ve switched to Waitrose. Never had a problem with them.

beaglescurleduplikebagels · 31/08/2026 12:04

We’ve had this a few times - driver sickness, a broken down van and an accident meaning they couldn’t get through. We’ve always had it redelivered the following day without an issue though - that’s across various companies (Asda, Tesco and Morrisons).

Hycosaneyedrops · 31/08/2026 12:07

I’ve had this once before but from Sainsbury’s, was delivered the next day and driver told us the freezers/chillers in one of their vans had stopped working.

Musicaltheatremum · 31/08/2026 12:08

We had this once with a van problem (Sainsbury's) we just picked it up as we live beside the store anyway and we're using the gym before the delivery was due to come.

mindutopia · 31/08/2026 12:13

Driver shortage or vehicle accident or breakdown. We’ve also had them not turn up due to flooding and ice/snow.

I once had one not turn up during lockdown (driver shortage that I assume was due to someone needing to self-isolate). I said it was fine and I was happy to drive to the store to collect. They were very apologetic and I received a £25 bottle of champagne as a thank you for not being a knobhead about this. It was great! 😂

SergeantWrinkles · 31/08/2026 12:14

Our local Tesco shut yesterday because the electricity went. Something like that would halt a delivery
