What do babies wear in nursery when it's colder? Help!

Our 13mo will be going to nursery soon and I'm thinking through what clothes to send her in. Nursery have said waterproof and coat and warmer clothes when needed. In nursery they go on a few trips in the big buggies and play in the garden.

When it was last cold she was obviously a lot smaller and she was in pram suits in pram with a foot muff.

What I'm struggling with is firstly she can't independently stand/walk yet and does a lot of crawling around or pulling to stand with support, so any warm clothes would need to keep legs warm and dry too. And she doesn't have shoes yet as doesn't need but perhaps I buy now?

She's also quite skinny, 8.4kg ish in weight (9th percentile) so trousers don't stay around her waist, she wears tighter leggings but they're obviously quite thin and not suitable for winter.

Any help from those been through this please? Hoping to buy a few bits this weekend so it's sorted. Thanks!

Fleece lined puddle suit for outdoors.

Socks, trousers, jumpers, cardigans for indoors - layers, have her in a vest etc. If you think leggings are too thin, buy thicker or lined ones.

Thicker tights from JoJo or Blade & Rose etc, warm jumper over a long sleeved babygro, all in one waterproof/puddlesuit (you can get insulated versions if it’s really cold)! I have a very slim waisted little one too and this is what worked for us.

I'd get a rain suit instead of a waterproof jacket and then she's covered for crawling about outdoors. I'm sure you can get them with feet covers for pre-walkers, but they're probably more for using in a baby carrier than being out independently in the mud. I used to get ours from a website called Muddy Puddles, Trespass, Mountain Warehouse and Aldi and Lidl do the dungarees style waterproofs a couple of times a year. The nursery will probably want a pair of wellies left there for outdoors, but they need to be steady on their feet before they can wear them. For clothes at that age my two lived in joggers or dungarees, long sleeved vests and light jumpers in the winter. If the layers are too thick it interferes with their movement.

She’s quite hard to buy clothes for as shes tall so needs the length of 12+ months but waist wise would probably fit 6-9 months still so a lot of clothes don’t really fit her. And assume better to not have loose fitting clothing at nursery so they don’t get caught when playing..

We sent our daughter in daily wearing joggers, sweater and either a long sleeve top or bodysuit, plus a jacket. I wanted her to be comfy and cosy.

They will likely ask for an insulated all-in-one
and hat for outside play. Jojo Maman Bebe was the easiest to get in/out of- look on Vinted. Some nurseries provide wellies, ours wanted us to provide them. Mittens totally useless tbh for nursery.

If you can’t get joggers to stay up, Next do fleece lined leggings which we used as an alternative to joggers.

Just dress her normally. Vest, bottoms, jumper. Leggings are good if you need a smaller waist but full length. You can get fleece lined for winter if you’re worried about her being cold but chances are it’ll actually be pretty warm inside. For outside play I’d get a non insulated waterproof puddle suit and a warmer snow suit to cover all weathers. Nursery will likely ask for wellies to live there. Send her in wearing trainers. Buy massive multipacks of cheap mittens from amazon in all one colour and keep a few in all pockets, nursery bag etc. so they should always be able to find a pair. Hats also get lost a lot so go for quality not quantity.

I had little insulated booties for mine when he was at nursery before he could walk, basically they look like ski gloves for feet!

then baby Boggs boots (get them on vinted) as wellies, they are waterproof and warm and easy to walk in. New walkers can’t walk in actual wellies for a little while. He had one pair of those then was confident enough for a tiny pair of wellies.

waterproof trousers and warm jacket, or snowsuit. Normal clothes underneath, IMO leggings etc better than dresses.

Dungarees work for skinny toddlers. Joggers are a good option if you are able to put extra elastic in the waistband to make them smaller. Works with pyjama bottoms too.

Layers eg tights under leggings, vest, top, cardigan.
2 piece fleece lined waterproofs with dungarees and a coat - Lidl often do these.

Normal outfit for winter so long sleeved vest if it's cold (or short sleeved / t-shirt if weather varies). Leggings or joggers, socks.

Our nursery wanted waterproof shoe covers when my DS wasn't walking yet, and he had a fleecy/insulated all in one puddle suit as well as a non insulated one for when it was rainy but not as cold. Warm hat too.

I just sent mine in the normal clothes that they’d wear at home. Leggings, vest, t-shirt and cardigan/jumper. Then a thick puddle suit for outside.

A variety of options, then you dress her for the journey and they change her as needed.

Polarn O Pyret do really good adjustable waists on lots of their trousers and joggers - not cheap but they do have regular sales! I also found some adjustable jeans in Next recently. My DC is in about 9-12 or 12-18mo waists but 3yrs for length, I know the challenge!
