This is so dull but I need a new toaster, looks similar to Smeg but isn’t a Smeg.

As the title, can’t add anything more interesting to it. If it does 4 slices instead of 2 that’s a bonus.

Thank you

Dualit classic 4 slice. The metal ones, not the cheaper fashiony coloured ones. They are expensive though. I've had mine for 20+ years and it is absolutely bombproof. They are very well made in the first place but also very simple inside, so can be fixed very easily if anything does go wrong (wear & tear on components is inevitable eventually).

No don't got dualit. We have one and I massively regret it. It's worse than the £20 one we used as students.

waltzingparrot · 29/08/2026 13:02

Dunhelm have a few that look like this

What's up with it? Mine toasts evenly and doesn't dry stuff out, it has been reliable for decades and the build quality is good. Have they gone downhill in the last 20yrs?

Tunaboona · 29/08/2026 13:10

I think they've gone downhill. It doesn't toast evenly at all. Bread comes out toasted in patches and barely warm. If you leave it for longer the patches burn.

Kalanthe · 29/08/2026 13:10

Why not Smeg?

bababamama · 29/08/2026 13:11

Supermarkets have their own brand ones that can look good but less features

My ‘Funky’ toaster (and kettle) is great

We have that one (had it about 4 years) and happy with it

PickFlowersNotFights · 29/08/2026 13:18

I did originally buy the pink one and exchanged them for cream. Always wish I’d stuck to rose gold pink 😞

I can’t seem to post a link but B&Q have them.

TeaAndStrumpets · 29/08/2026 13:45

I believe the toasters are still made in the UK, but other lines are designed in UK but made in China.

We had a nice looking Dualit kettle which lasted for four years. It basically fell to bits. The kettle part was still fine but the trim crumbled away at the edges and looked scraggy. Then the nut holding the flip up lid fell off and couldn't be replaced! I did like the kettle as it was 1 litre capacity and boiled really fast, so I confess I have bought another one. Wish me luck!

We have a very reliable delonghi 4 slice which is red, i love it. It was on offer at currys and we got it half price, about £30

My delonghi toaster

I’ve got a dualit toaster and love it. Had it maybe 10 years? I made the fatal mistake of buying one of their matching kettles. It weighs a tonne and barely boils any water. Do not recommend.

Same here. We had two dualits. They both broke within months. Very cheap toasters have lasted years.

GinToBegin · 29/08/2026 14:11

I hate our dualit toaster with an absolute passion. Goes from raw to cremated in seconds, simply can’t be left unattended to do the job of actual toasting.

I know some people love theirs, but a similar number seem not to, and I’m not sure the price is worth the risk.

Lilypad34 · 29/08/2026 14:37

Ours is an old Dualit about 20 years old but it’s now decided that we want warm bread or one side toasted. I’d like one made in the UK so will look into that.

As far as not wanting Smeg I don’t think they’re great. Quite like the delonghi.

I’d quite like a nice looking one as it sits on the worktop in full view. Not that anyone cares it’s just a toaster.

I’ve got a kitchen aid one. It was ridiculously expensive but I love it.

Like these but I can’t get past the fact they call them ‘artisan’ then charge you for it 😬

We have a dualit architect 4 slice and love it - me and DH have half each set to our preferred colouring

Thank you

I bought this one at Dunelm before Xmas, and it's brilliant. It comes in different colours too.

I also got the matching toaster & a retro look microwave from their too at the same time.

I keep getting the Haden Heritage toaster 'pop up' while I'm scrolling. I'm tempted but prefer stainless steel.
