Anyone else stuck on the M25

We’ve been here over 2 hours now. J26 I think. No movement whatsoever. The fire engines and ambulances whizzed past us over 90 minutes ago. It’s now dark, I’m exhausted, DC starving We have been driving since 9am this morning back from holiday.

That sounds awful OP. Do you have any water or snacks in the car at all? Hopefully the traffic will start moving soon…

No not stuck but was stuck last night somewhere trying to get home

Id love to know how we compare or other countries with road and motorway and train and tube issues.

It's also so strange we can't update people as to what's happened and how long likely to be stick

Yes. We are a short distance from that exit. Literally no movement whatsoever since just after 7pm. People are now walking up and down the motorway. The poor woman in the car next to me has a crying baby who looks about 6 months old.

We have a random medley of popcorn, travel sweets, flapjacks and a dwindling amount of water.

Hope you'll be ok, I have been stuck on M4 many times and it's horrible. I know some accident cannot be avoided but when you see the decrease in driving standard over the last 10 years there needs to be stricter punishment for careless driving

I never go on the M25 unless I absolutely have to, when I do I take supplies! Food and water for all occupants of the car.

Major accident by the looks of it, junction 21-23 shut, large section of the M1 as well near J8. Unclear exactly where the accident occurred.

There’s also roadworks and resurfacing so the hard shoulder is shut in areas.

Nope I'm stuck on my sofa. (First rule of the Toasty household- you don't travel on a Bank Holiday unless you're working).

I feel for you. I got stuck on the ring road (A4174) around Bristol once for 4 hours. Annoyingly I was only 10 minutes from home and DH had cooked dinner. We were in a cutting so could only see the stone walls and a bridge in the distance. We eventually got turned around and sent back up the carriageway.

Hope you’re home now. It’s part and parcel of living in a hugely overcrowded country I’m afraid.

This won’t help but I was stuck on the M25 for 7 hours a few years ago and it was horrendous. It literally took 7 hours to travel to the next junction which of course was completely gridlocked and also at a standstill like most of north London due to the M25 closure. I was tired and alone at the end of a long journey already and felt like crying and just abandoning my car. I still get anxious when I get to that same stretch of the M25 in case it happens again.

I hope you got moving OP, that is literally my idea of hell. I'm so sorry for the lady with the baby, I can't even imagine the stress levels!

Finally home! We were stuck for about 3.5 hours in the end so it could have been a lot worse. The car in front of us broke down a few minutes after we started moving which was awful (for them) and then there was another standstill for about 45 minutes after a few miles of driving. I don’t know where the accident occurred because there were no signs whatsoever of any damaged vehicles, emergency services etc anywhere. My absolutely amazing neighbours took in our food shop delivery for us and also made us a meal which was ready in the oven when we got home. They are the reason I’m never moving house😂

@HundredMilesAnHour that sounds horrific, how on earth did you cope for 7 hours??

My dad got stuck overnight once it scares me!

We were stuck for around 3 hours on the M1 which was bad enough but when we got towards our junction on the M25, it was closed so we had to go the long way round at midnight.

I can't undertsnd why drivers can't be updated somehow on rough timing ? I mean if you knew it would be several hours at least could sleep or walk around etc .it's the not knowing that gets me same with the trains

Good to read you’re home safe and well OP. I sometimes wonder what people do in these awful situations where they’re stuck overnight like @WatermelonSalad1 Dad. Toilet wise it would be very hard to hold number 1’s or 2’s for that long. I remember over 10 years ago hundred’s of people being stuck on a UK motorway for about 12 hours during a snow storm and freezing conditions. During desperate times like that e.g someone pregnant, would they be allowed to go to the loo on the side of the motorway or would you be prosecuted?
