cycling trip without the cycling?

Long story short I am going with a friend on a boat trip down a European river for cyclists but can’t now do the bike ride bit due to injury. Not possible to switch names on the booking for someone else to go, that’s not an issue. More about passing the time etc
They will be doing 30 miles a day etc between places over a week. Anyone else been in this position? I am hoping to play catch up with the group using taxis where I can. Have packed several novels.

30 miles / day isn’t loads. There will be plenty of non-cycling time. I think your plan to taxi to the lunch stop is fine.

When you're not in the taxi / at the lunch stop I imagine you'll be on the boat.

Is this on a river or a canal? Can you find some material on the history of the waterway and the places it passes through? How about books and apps related to the wildlife you're likely to see? And borrowing a pair of binoculars, maybe.
