If you could have any dessert you wanted right now, what would it be?

I’d choose rhubarb crumble with proper thick custard.

Panna cotta

Ouefs a la niege / îles flotantes / eggs in the snow - I have only ever had it in France, not in a restaurant.
Whipped meringue 'clouds' floating on a sky / sea of custard....it was positively dreamy (made by the housekeeper of the halls)
I have never had anything to compare it with since. Oh my good lord....but a memory to savour (I would never attempt it obvs)
But failing that, my mum's rhubarb crumble.

Chocolate mousse. Proper one made with eggs and dark chocolate

We bought some lemon tarts from a shop in France, they were divine. We went back to the same place several times, just for the tarts. We could never remember the name of the place and always referred to it as the tart village. The French are excellent at pastry.

@Joliloily it is very hard to beat the perfect tarte au citron, I agree...I wish tart village was just around the corner now !

Strawberry tarts or lemon meringue pie

Right now as I'm not too hungry the banoffee pot from Pret would go down very nicely. I tried it the other day at the airport. It's got an oaty base and just bananas and a bit of cocoa powder on the top so seems fairly wholesome but has a great creamy cheesecakey layer. Ideal. I'm generally more into homemade stuff but it really hit the spot.

Warm treacle tart and clotted cream

Gonksmum · 28/08/2026 00:58

@howtoparent yes, me too! I very occasionally make the Delia version from the Cookery Course books I was given as a child back in the 80s. Bournville chocolate is lovely in it or even Maya Gold, if you can still get it. A dollop of whipped cream and some grated choc on top would gild the lily, but it's not essential. My dream dessert!

Either a really dark fancy chocolate torte style affair, or spotted dick and custard

Like a massive bowlful when your face goes red afterwards
