DS17 caught using nicotine pouches

We haven’t had any trouble with DS17 until now, which is why this is such a shock. He is doing great academically, studying 4 difficult A-levels.

Then came the bombshell. We recently discovered he is a regular user of nicotine pouches.

I absolutely lost my temper when I found out and spoke to him very harshly. Now the dust is settling, I need some solid advice before I take another step.

AIBU to be completely furious about this? What practical action can or should I actually take now, other than lecturing him on the massive risks I’m sure he already knows?

I wouldn’t lecture him, but I totally understand why you did.

They are for over 18s only, so how did he get them? Try and get some perspective, he’s young, he’s going to experiment. Does he vape? Smoke cigarettes? The nicotine isn’t great, but tobacco is more dangerous. At his age you can only advise, point out the risks (of which are small). If you go in too hard, he’ll react. Firm, cool and non judgmental would be my advice.
