How often do you hear from your dog sitter when you’re away?

It’s the first time we’ve left him with a dog sitter, what’s the normal amount of contact?

it’s been over 24hrs since I heard from them and I’m desperate to know how he’s doing but don’t want to be a mitherer.

Is it a paid dog sitter or a friend? Are they staying at your house or just dropping in?
I dog sit for friends and tbh some days I might send updates a few times and other days I don’t.

I'd say it hugely varies! I've had some that send multiple updates a day and others that send none!
If you want to know how he is, just send a quick message.

My cat sitter sends a WhatsApp pic of our wee cat every day. They visit for 30 mins once a day. She looooves the cat sitters better than she loves me

I'd want updates every day but I'm a worrier! My pet sitters send pics and/or videos daily. If you haven't heard then ask - the sitter probably doesn't want to bother you while you're away.

as above, our cat sitter sends a pic and confirmation that she’s been fed/litter changed etc every day. I believe this is pretty normal service from paid pet sitters, so you wouldn’t be unreasonable to text them and prompt a response.

however, if that’s not the service they promise, it’s ok for them not to do it off their own bat. I don’t think they’re doing anything wrong if they haven’t promised it, and I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong asking how the dog is settling in with them

The dog is staying with the family or the dog sitter?? If it’s a professional who does this for a living then I’d probably expect more regular contact than from a friend / family member who already knows the dogs well. If I leaving them with someone new or unknown I’d want more regular updates. Just drop them a message with something “hi, hope everything is well and that Ddog is behaving themselves”

You should really specify what level of contact you'd like. One of my cat feed customers wanted photos and a report of every visit, whether it finished its food, if there was poo in the tray! My very first dog sit they said no need to contact unless house is on fire. I was happy to do whatever the customer wanted. Just text if you need reassurance, they won't mind.

Our dog sitter stayed in our house and messaged and sent photos once a day.

I left my dog in a reliable kennel which I had used many times for my previous dogs. I left emergency contact numbers, then just left them to it. I trust the owner and know she would have contacted my son if there was any problem.

It’s pre-agreed they send me a text and photos once a day.

When I look after other people’s animals it’s an absolute minimum of one photo a day. Sometimes videos and lots of photos and chat.

Cat sitter here, not paid (get presents). Over 2 weeks of cat sitting I Whats apped owners 2 pics of cats enjoying themselves in the sun. Want them to enjoy their holiday, not be bombarded by messages from me.
