Can I share my news, not allowed to in real life but desperate to tell someone

Not able to share this is real life with anyone and I'm dying just to tell someone.

DH started a business with 3 others around 12 years ago. He worked two jobs for the first five years. They now employ 35 people and he earns a good salary. I support elements of the business too.

The goal was always to build the business and sell at some point. He's quite entrepreneurial and has been involved in a few start ups over the years (we're mid forties) but none have stuck until this one.

They've recently developed a product which is ground breaking in their field and it's making them very attractive to others now. They have had two companies wishing to start talks over a potential buyout. It's obviously right at the start of the process and anything could happen so I'm not allowed to speak to anyone or get excited about anything but for the first time, I am excited. It's been a long graft and I've always been of the mindset that it will never happen as then I'm not disappointed but it feels like it might be a real possibility now.

Should it go ahead we would be looking at netting around 2 million. This is obviously a life changing amount of money for us and I'm dreaming of being able to finally have double glazing in my house!

In the meantime, I just have to sit on it, keep quiet and hope for the best.

That’s exciting OP. Good luck!

Then you really should not have shared with ANYONE. I hope it all comes to fruition for you.

Oh wow that’s incredible!! I own my own business and the slog is unreal at times - I’ve only been going for 4 years but can only imagine being that successful. Don’t forget this could still all a) take ages b) fall apart but it’s a very good sign!!

Truetoself · 27/08/2026 07:58

Good luck!

How exciting! I hope the sale progresses for you. So lovely to hear of someone making a success out of hard work and contributing to the economy/jobs market - well done to your husband and you for picking up the extra work and pressure at home/rest of life to enable him to commit so much to it.

That’s absolutely brilliant! Keeping everything crossed for you.

StolenTeapots · 27/08/2026 08:00

Fingers crossed that's exciting!

Amazing!!

ClovisWrites · 27/08/2026 08:01

That’s fantastic.

Beware selling to US companies: they’ll try to get the purchase price back via SPA warranty claims.

DogAnxiety · 27/08/2026 08:03

woo- good for you! Make sure he doesn’t sell it for less than it’s worth - the allure of big bucks can skew things a bit ;) I’m pleased you will get your double glazing and I sort of love this as a goal 😂.

I think that's it - the slog is real and whilst you're in the midst you just keep going. Yes there's always been an end goal but the interim has been about making it sustainable and allowing us to have a salary so DH could make this his primary focus.

I definitely don't get too excited as I know that it can all come to nothing very quickly (been there before!) but it's nice to be able to dream a little bit. We are not greedy people. We have a nice life but it would be nice to afford to have the house done and go on some good holidays. One day....
