Driving the wrong way down the motorway and A roads

What I don't understand about these guys driving the wrong way down motorways and A roads is what are they hoping to achieve? Apart from likes on TikTok?

Do they actually aim to crash into other cars? What do they actually think is going to happen? Are they on a suicide mission? I don't understand at all.

They stole a car and the police were chasing them

This may be a complete misunderstanding on my part, but I think it's because the police won't generally pursue down a motorway/ dual carriageway in the wrong direction (for obvious reasons).

They knew the police wouldn’t follow them down the wrong side of dual carriageway.

According to all the news one reason is that they know it will end the police chase

I know you're talking about those doing it deliberately, and apparently it's for likes. The only case I've known of before this craze was an older woman who got confused and did it accidentally (the police did get involved and I believe she stopped driving after that).

The recent cases in Ireland possibly. The one in Middlesbrough it seems they were evading a police pursuit for other reasons.

I've just remembered that my grandad (who stayed driving for way longer than he should have, looking back) got confused and accidentally went down an exit slip road to enter a dual carriageway, but I don't think he entered the dual carriageway (not sure what he did do at the bottom of the slip road; I wasn't there, I just remember being told about it.) He didn't lose or relinquish his license as a result either.
