Dolly Parton was many things, she was a brilliant comedian with great one-liners … what ones do you remember / are your favourites?

Mine include some well know blinders:

  1. it takes a lot of money to look this cheap
  2. When speaking to a journalist who said what do you think about people who call you a dumb blonde … well I’m not dumb and I’m certainly not blonde
  3. how long does it take you to do your hair: I have no idea, I’m not there!

these may not be exactly right but brilliant way about her where she didn’t take herswlf seriously, she had a look and it was iconic, I’m very sad today, so want to have a cry and chuckle to some funny comments that she’s said over the years - fly high Dolly

Someone once asked her what her morning routine was. She replied:

'I get up, get dressed and go home!'

What a legend ❤️

There is an awful interview where I think it is Diane Sawyer and she is really talking down to her about being a hill billy.

She did an absolute masterclass on flipping the script and talking up her people. Honestly trained PR specialist could not have done better.

There is a fantastic communications specialist called Dorie Clark who uses this as an example in her courses.

ETA just found it on her LinkedIn https://lnkd.in/p/eVSeK4Vx

Another one about her plastic surgery and when she knew it was time for more surgery when she said her husband asked her to show him her tits so she lifted her skirt up

My weaknesses have always been food and men … in that order .
its on my cover photo on fb and has been for years

HolyMerlot · 26/08/2026 21:17

In a recent Instagram video she said her husband had told her “Dolly you aren’t getting any younger” and she replied something like “Carl, as long as there are plastic surgeons on this Earth I ain’t getting any older!”

When asked if she was a runner.
“With these honey? I’d give myself a black eye”

as one who is also large of Noel it was a comment I always appreciated

What I'm pondering is what is was about Dolly that made both men and women love her. That's unusual! I'm guessing the genuine humility?

I hadnt thought of this but you are absolutely right. Its unusual for a woman that out there, to not be pulled down by other women.

Waiting to hear about her "white privilege." She was like Elvis. White "trash."

Type in Dolly Parton on Google.
They have made a little tribute.

I was the first woman to burn my bra - it took the fire department 4 days to put it out. 😁

Brilliant!! 🤩

A man yelled "I love you!” to Dolly Parton while she was performing on stage. She looked in his direction and said, "I love you, too, but I told you to wait in the truck." 🤣

That’s brilliant 🤩

Isn't it? She had a rapier wit and a fierce intelligence, and must have come as quite a surprise to those interviewing her who might have expected her to live up to the 'dumb blonde' image.

What a fantastic personality and altruistic being she must have been. I haven't felt quite this affected by a celebrity's death since Doris Day.

They don't make them like this anymore.

No need. There really wasn't.

A clip of a live performance where she is talking about "Jolene" and spots a very attractive redhead in the audience and points out she looks a lot like her, everyone laughing. She goes on to say "Jolene ripped my wig off and darn near beat me to death with it".

Absolute one off

Chelsea26 · 27/08/2026 11:55

I saw a clip yesterday when a man who’d lost his hair asked her if he should wear a wig. She winked at him and said “just because you’ve lost your fuzz don’t mean you ain’t a peach!”

She was brilliant!

I may be paraphrasing,. but one of her quotes was

'I think gays should be allowed to marry - why should it be only us heterosexuals that have to suffer '

Also love that apparently once for a laugh she entered a 'Dolly Parton lookalike contest' and thought it hilarious that she came second to a man in drag.....
