Call me old fashioned, but isn't this sort of thing likely to provoke a run on toilet rolls? Couldnt find any other threads on it, but I think there is a "preppers" topic on here somewhere. In any case, what do you think? I'm sort of concerned, should I be? Or has this gone under the radar?

I just meant looting in the traditional sense which as I said I don’t think needs an end of days scenario to happen.

@godmum56confusion, that she had taken it. At one point she was on at least 8 tablets a day.

So not because she had run out? We had problems with my mum and her meds. There is only so much you can do.

You're assuming everybody would have access to a printer at home and there is the power to run it. You're not seeing the bigger picture. There have been issues with med supplies for years now, either me or DP have often picked up ours and told "oh we've just given you a weeks worth of X meds, hopefully the rest will be here in a sometime this week".....great when you're down to your last 5 days of epilepsy or heart meds. The hassle to get an emergency prescription and ring around other pharmacies to determine whether or not they can fill it is a joy.

yes but it can run albeit partially without for a short period. As I keep saying all that people need to do for themselves is give the organisations some space and time to put plans into action...and as I have already said which is better? having no prescription meds and no food. water or lighting or having food water and lighting but no prescription meds. Having no prescription meds is never going to be ideal and if people can keep a weeks meds in hand its a good idea and shouldn't be that hard to do but its never going to be helped by not having food, water and light either.

I think it was the Guardian...like the Mail but posher. The official advice has been around for YEARS and before that people took such simple precautions anyway. I have done it ever since I moved out of my parents' home and they did it because they learned to do it in the war (they were both interbellum babies) My sibling's kids do it because their parents taught them. Honestly I am amazed that people don't!

My understanding is we will be receiving leaflets in the near future.

Well what about those that can’t afford to stockpile or don’t have space? I’m thinking homeless people, those living in hmo’s or temporary accommodation?

Reminds me of lockdown and ‘just stay at home’ forgetting that for some people their home is a prison. (I’m thinking DV situations..)

There are people who will need support. No one is saying that everybody MUST do everything, but if everybody who can does what they can, it would help a great deal to achieve the breathing space that will be needed to get the emergency plans up and running.
I am honestly not sure why people are asking "what about x, what about y" unless they are genuine questions because they don't know what to do about a certain issue and want advice.

This is exactly why those who are able, should prepare to support themselves for a while. So that resources can be directed towards those who are unable to.

I don't think anyone on here is saying "just" do anything.

I don’t think we are good at this sort of thing in the UK. Other countries have been doing it for decades. I think any message will create panic. I know I find it scary

well we don't seem to be good at this on MN....unless the majority of sensible people are reading this thread and eyerolling.

I don’t store prescriptions, I order a few days early each time and have about 3 weeks additional medication as I cannot run out. Its not difficult to build up a reasonable safety net of medication, and if you have serious chronic illness, it’s very sensible in case of supply shortage.

So your logic is that it would be better to not mention anything, talk about it and certainly not send out a leaflet. Because some people may panic.

If they do panic they should perhaps have a word with themselves.

At the beginning of covid times I did that with my thyroid medication, I get 3 months at a time anyway but I tried picking up the next batch earlier each time just to be sure I had a good supply even at the end of those 3 months.
