This story illuminates one of the big prepping mistakes made by new preppers: buying things they hear are good to stock up yet in reality they don't like those things much nor eat them. I certainly did that in the runup to Brexit. Ended up donating a bunch of things to my local food bank. Now I only buy things I actually like!
I did hear another good tip yesterday - if your water supply is limited you don't want to be using all of it up cooking rice and pasta. Whilst it's good to have those in stock, it might be better to up your tinned meat/fish/veg/fruit supplies.
At the moment I'm going to assume NO power which means no heating, no electric. We've an electric cooker althoug we've several neighbours with log burners so could probably rustle up the odd hot tin of beans that way, but in the main we are going to have to eat cold food out of tins, or packets. So I'm re-thinking exactly what I do have in the light of that. I don't have a gas camping stove and don't plan on getting one.
@PigglyWigglyOhYeah another novice mistake is apparently buying gear and not knowing how to use it, then you need to and are fumbling round in the dark trying to figure it out! Best learn whilst you can and everything is OK, then if you need to you will know how and not get stressed!
I'm going to check through my box of miscellaneous medical and other supplies and make an inventory and leave it in the box so I know exactly what I do have. Also check the expiry dates on any first aid supplies.
