How to accept being alone forever

After a divorce and a relationship with who I think was an avoidant who ended things out the blue and nearly completely destroyed my mental health, I am realising a long loving relationship just may not be on the cards for me. I always imagined growing old with a partner and I miss having someone to do life with. I tried the apps before but they were awful. Is anyone else in the same boat? Single at nearly 50 and realising this is probably it? I feel so sad, this isn’t how I imagined my life to be

Probably not what you want to hear right now, but after two divorces I feel LIBERATED to embrace being alone forever.

I got my kid, which was what was really important to me.

Men? Stinky, dangerous, volatile, disappointing men? Nah. So much easier without them. Life is glorious.

Develop wider interests and make new friends. You might live an interesting life full of friends, you might even meet another man. I did that and married in my early 50s but sometimes I wonder if I should have stayed single after all.

If romance is not in your horizon, then your life will be filled with other great things. Great friendships, adventures, projects, family.
You will never be alone if you follow your heart and get involved. Whether that is with your community, friends, family, that depends of your own interests and personality. And, as a single person, you can follow and explore those without anything holding you back. Just go for it.

I’m 55 and have been single for 28 years and counting (no sex for 25 years and counting).

But I never envisaged a permanent relationship in my life.

i can honestly say it’s the best thing that ever happened to me - to be truly emotionally independent is a very healthy position to be in

I assumed I would be alone forever when I left my exh aged 60. But have had two relationships since then with good men /first was for 2 years then 2 years after that amicably ended (and I again assume was alone forever) met an even better man who am still happily with 18 months later.
Met both in RL thru mutual
hobby friends.

My mother met her partner when she was in her 70s. She had a very full life and definitely wasn't looking for a relationship but she met him on holiday and they bonded over a mutual hobby. He was in his late 70s.

I was talking to a friend about this today. I'm long term single. I don't need anyone permanently as life is full and I never feel lonely. Fancy a shag now and again and wouldn't mind a weekend away with a FWB for that purpose

A friend of mine asked her friends to introduce her to one of their single friends. They have now been together for many years. Other than that way are you interested in things like quizzes? Could you join a quiz team. Are you interested in any sports as apparently that is a good place to meet men.
