Has your school informed you of new legal uniform requirements?

As its now the requirement that only 3 pieces of uniform can be branded (including p.e kit), I'm wondering if schools have started communicating this to parents?

DD13 has about 5 pieces of branded school uniform. No comms from school yet on reducing this in line with the law as yet.

Anyone else?

Nothing from our primary school.

my youngest’s primary school has no compulsory branded items.
the secondary for the eldest 2 only has the blazer and a PE top so no changes needed!

They haven't told us no, but last year they reduced the number of branded items anyway.

There are a number of new legislation coming in for schools from this September. Not only uniform, but the ban on smartphones and a few other bits which I can't remember off the top of my head. So schools have been busy this year but not all info has been passed onto parents.

Good luck in getting private schools to abide by that one!

It's only applies to state funded schools.

You have missed one key thing they can only have 3 (plus a tie in secondary school) COMPULSORY branded items. So they can still have a branded item available as long as parents know they can get a non branded alternative in the right style.

My older daughter’s school only has two mandatory branded items (jumper and PE hoodie) and my younger’s school has none mandatory (there are branded items available and I do get the jumper/cardi and the book bag but supermarket own is fine).

They updayed DDs school uniform over a year ago.
It made no diffetence to the overall price... the only thing thatcreally changed was the PE shorts/skorts went from navy/white to plain navy, but they stil cost the same.

What about ones funded by state MDS?

Yes I hoped the bit about it being compulsory was implicit in my post.

Branded school jumper is £25 whereas I can 2 for £11 (unbranded) from Sainsbury's Tu.

Yes ours has. They’ve fudged the issue a bit though, and said you don’t HAVE to buy x, y, z and children may wear a plain white polo shirt instead- but if they want to they can still purchase the school branded shirt on the website.

I’m not sure what the split will be when we go back in September.

Yes, the school mentioned it in the last newsletter before summer holidays. It went from from 4 compulsory items to 3. Jumper, tie and backpack. They dropped the PE kit, although its still available in the shop.

Yes I think that the branded items shouldn't be in the school uniform list / store but they could be until they sell out of them.

No, but we only ever had 3 branded bits anyway (jumper, PE shirt and PE jumper, and frankly I’m sure you could just wear the normal jumper on PE day if you really wanted to and no one would care! Only difference is one is a hoodie and the other isn’t).

Secondary school is the same. Jumper, PE shirt and PE jumper, though you could just wear a normal coat instead of the PE jumper if you want, it’s just for when it’s cold.

Yes - DD starts Yr7 in September & at the info evening etc we were told the only compulsory logo items are the blazer, tie, PE T-shirt & PE top.
There are other logo items but they aren’t compulsory, though there are rules around length/style if skirt, colour of socks/tights etc.

Ours has never been compulsory, I get the jumpers, fleeces and pe top but everything else I buy unbranded. I think it’s good for parents to have a choice, I can’t believe they are allowed any compulsory branded items to be honest.

Yes they did communicate this and have changed the uniform list to say something like “navy rugby shorts (with the school crest or plain)”. I don’t think they have any intention of phasing out the multiple items with logos and it seems like these are still preferred.

Yes before the school holidays they said only PE tops would now be branded, not PE shorts. Net saving £5 per child max. Still have to purchase the £40 blazers and £15 PE top. If your DD wants to wear a skirt, that’ll be £30 as well (thankfully mine wear trousers).

We've never had any branded stuff being compulsory. DC get one branded jumper a year and the rest is unbranded.

I want aware of this so went to check the email we received last week about returning to school as that had uniform details on. Rather annoying as if they want to wear a plain polo shirt (no logo on) that must be worn under a branded jumper. So if it’s hot they still need the branded polo shirt. For pe they must have a branded PE shirt sleeved t shirt, if they want to wear the rugby shirt when it’s cold this must also be branded or they can choose not to wear one and be cold! Rather cheeky way of getting around it.

I don't think that is getting round it and would point out as much.

They will just say you don’t have to buy the extra bits though

In Scotland whilst schools can have branded uniform- none of it can be compulsory and school must have a non branded alternative
