Pyjamas during the day?

Is it acceptable to wear pyjamas at home during the day? What about answering the door for parcels? Watering the plants?

I’m talking sensible shorts and t-shirt types?

I'm wondering what "day contamination" is??

I wouldnt. Pyjamas are for sleeping in. I hate going to bed in pyjamas that smell of cooking or whatever, and I feel like mentally it makes me lazy and sluggish and self conscious should anyone show up. I'd be much comfier knocking around in joggers and a t-shirt or something else casual.

My sleep clothes and at-home clothes are somewhat interchangeable, but I do get changed in the morning and before bed. Mostly because I don’t wear underwear underneath my pyjamas, so it’s for hygiene to change after a night / a day, just as I wouldn’t normally wear knickers for more than one day or one night without changing them.

I use to only wear pj's/comfy clothes at bed time, now once I'm home and know I'm home until the next day the comfy clothes come out!! I don't care anymore!

Only if you want people to think that you’re a lazy slob who hasn’t bothered to get dressed. Why not just buy soft loungewear shorts?

if by outside you mean going somewhere then yes often. If you mean stepping out to get the paper in or take in a parcel then what's wrong with PJ's?

I am actually wondering how people tell the difference? I mean yes if your nightwear is lacy and skimpy but there is loads of stuff sold as loungewear that you could sleep in and loads of stuff sold as sleepwear that you could wear all day.

What people? I wouldn’t go to the shops or anywhere in pyjamas but I live alone and so if I am pottering around my own house and garden in them, there’s nobody judging anything surely?

And honestly who gives a shit what their neighbours are wearing if you catch a glimpse of them taking the rubbish out in their dressing gown? People could be ill/working shifts. 🤷‍♀️

I don’t understand why this would be a problem. I wear comfortable clothes at home, pyjamas or loungewear what ever is to hand. Why anyone would care what I wear in the privacy of my own home I don’t know. I also don’t care if people think I haven’t had a shower when I’m just in my house, I often have but will then put clean comfies on after if I’m not going out. Sometimes I don’t shower though, and the world hasn’t burned down. I still “get dressed” every day but I’m not pottering around at home in clothes that don’t provide optimum comfort. Really not my problem if others think it’s slovenly.

Theres a lot of clothes that look like pj's these days. Athleisure and co ords. My "comfies" are yoga pants, t shirts and jersey shirts. All could double up as pj's, I suppose.
There are no rules. Apart from going to tesco in your dressing gown and slippers.

If I'm at home, I'm in pyjamas. I'll always have showered, and my pyjamas are always fresh and ironed. If I've already been dressed and out, I'll likely have makeup on and my hair styled too. Comfort is queen, and I like being in my indoor wear when I'm indoors.

I don't feel ready to start the day until I'm dressed, even if I'm not leaving the house.

I love the occasional PJ day, especially in the winter when it's bleak outside.

I would feel slobby if I didn't have a shadow first and then change into fresh PJs (and a bra!). Then light the fire, turn on the twinkly fairy lights and enjoy PJ day heaven.

Yes we are. Or at least, many people are. I have been sensitive to seams, labels, itchy materials, stiff waistbands, since I was a very small child.

Leggings/top in t-shirt material are the only clothes I can wear for a prolonged period without feeling uncomfortable. Sometimes I have to put up with it if I am going out and need to be more formally dressed, but it really affects my mood. If I had pyjamas I’d happily wear them at home too, but ironically I’ve never found a comfy pair of those either.

I was watching a TikTok from a postman who was talking about a woman who would always be in her underwear when answering the door and a man, who obviously had some issues, always answers his door either completely naked or bottom half naked (like Winnie the Pooh) 😵‍💫 so honestly I really don’t think delivery people care if you’re in loungewear or pyjamas

Who made that rule for you? Why do you care what others do?

I incredibly rarely do this - really only if ill. I just don't feel right until I'm showered and changed - sometimes into something that looks remarkably like pyjamas...

That is mine.

PJs are clothes that were sold in the PJ section of a shop, or clothes that could have been in that section. Other than that you can wear them whenever you want for whatever you want.

Personally, I have to be aware of my mental health sliding so when I get up in the morning I have a shower and put on clean clothes, which may be PJs or anything else in my wardrobe that is clean. I wouldn’t go out to a supermarket wearing them because I would feel embarrassed but don’t have a problem if other people do.

So would I wear them all day? Yes. They’re comfy because I go a size up, with trousers this means you can tuck them into your socks in winter, and the tops don’t ride up at the back and expose your lower back like a properly fitting T-shirt might do when worn with jeans.

Then I would take them off at night, wear something else to sleep in then repeat the next day.

I’d happily open the door in them, why wouldn’t I? They’re just baggy comfortable clothes after all.

It is up to you. But if you sit on the sofa in your PJs, and your kid's friend had been sitting there last night when they'd been playing in the park/on the bus, playing with pets etc etc, if you then wear those same PJs to bed, you're taking those germs up (I also prefer to "look dressed" but then my job's not wfh and I have kids, so wouldn't want to just be in PJs).
Obviously if you work through the day, then shower and put on clean PJs before bed, fine, and if you don't use video when you're working, I suppose you could say you're saving the environment/money as you don't have to wash an extra set of clothes.
