University Challenge: I have an excellent improvement suggestion

University Challenge should do a close up of the mascot. And possibly introduce them or explain their choice as part of the team’s introduction.

I spend too much time squinting at the mascot and missing the questions. This is likely the only reason I do so badly 😁

St Andrew’s is a Highland Coo and I am doing quite well tonight and have about ten correct.
And I got the first wall on Only Connect .

I find that sometimes you just get a corner of it though. So I think it is an elephant’s ear and then find out it is a cape. We need a head on shot.

Also we need an explanation. I get the highland cow but I want to know for example why they have chosen a puffin, or a rabbit or whatever.

I might have got 10 if only I had worked out the mascot first (this is a lie, I’m doing well if I get two!).

Pembroke's mascot is a Martlet.

It's from the coat of arms of the family/Earl of Pembroke.

Totally lost on the second one, too many young people references .

Maybe after the introductions, an individual question for each team to provide a plausible explanation of their opposing teams mascot.

I am proud if I find one group. I’m incredibly impressed!!

My suggestion is that they should spend less time at the beginning on introductions and general blether.

Just: "This is Squelch. She is a duck. She represents the fact that Pembroke College has a pond."

One of the players should dress as the Mascot.
