What could be causing these itchy red bites on my son?

Any idea what has caused this.....he's really itchy with it and it's getting redder. He has a couple on his legs and back too. Pharmacist gave us antihistamines but only 1 per day. No one else in the house has been bitten!

I got bitten too and they have left similar marks. Really itchy for days and red. One has gone down but left a bruise like mark. I think it may be a strange type of insect bite but mine are not like anything I've had before.

They look big so I’d say horsefly bites but seems an unusual place for them!

My skin goes like this with mosquito/midge bites and it lasts for days. Try some calamine lotion on them it usually helps me, I alternate with that and a hydrocortisone cream but I'm not sure what age that is suitable from

Looks similar to what I get from 'berry bugs' or aka 'harvest mites' in the garden.

Has he been rolling around on the grass recently or helping with garden maintenance?

(I swear by germolene cream otherwise I scratch so much I'm left with holes!)

My mosi bites do that too. Boots insect bite cream helps take the itch out but they take a few days to go down.

I can't see any evidence of bed bugs (my username was in reference to a holiday last year and not this!).
I'll get him some bite cream as someone suggested. Can't say he's been rolling in grass but has been in the garden and the park.

His look huge because he has a child’s body. They’ll take a few days to go and they’re as itchy as hell so the main thing to do is prevent him scratching and getting them infected. Otherwise he’ll be fine.

The lump is just his body's reaction to the bite and doesn't usually give you much info. If you have a pet consider whether it, and therefore the house, might have fleas. Even if you treat religiously there are treatment-resistant strains. But this time of year it could easily just be mozzies or similar.

Interesting things about fleas - not everyone reacts to them, so it can look like only some individuals are being targeted, when actually everyone's being bitten but others just aren't reacting. Also bites mainly on legs can be a sign it's fleas rather than anything else (jumping up from the carpet), but that is far from definitive especially when he is still so small anyway. It could easily just be that he's been out in shorts and had his thighs exposed.
