I'm closer to BF's mother's age than to his, problem?

None of us are young.

49, 58 and 66.

And it matters because

I don’t think it matters too hugely at your ages, however are you happy to be his carer if his health declines? Of course this can happen in any couple, but the odds are greater you’ll reach that stage sooner with a much older male partner.

I think OP is the older one?

BtwixtNBtween · 24/08/2026 16:05

I assume Traypaint is 58 and her partner is 49.

Less than a 10 year age gap between you and bf, Its fine. He did have a very young mum.

Traypaint · 24/08/2026 16:08

Sorry yes I thought the order was obvious.

He is the youngest I am the middle.

And it matters because

I don't know, that's what I'm asking.

Sometimes when we discuss film or music, my tastes and experiences are more aligned with his Mum than with him.

Not sure it matters- I am 7 years older than DH's daughter, it's about how you get on isn't it rather than the ages of each others relatives.

poachy · 24/08/2026 16:18

Ah sorry I should read more closely. Crack on and be happy!

EnjoythemoneyJane · 24/08/2026 16:19

Well his mum obviously had him very young, so she’s hardly representative of a completely different generation. There’s only 17 years between all of you, so it’s splitting hairs to say you’re closer to his mum’s age - especially when you’re all this old! You might get different answers if he was 19 and you were 28.

I think that's probably more to do with you both being women than the age gap.

iloveanearlynight · 24/08/2026 16:23

Of course it's fine. Absolutely nothing to see here.

beaglescurleduplikebagels · 24/08/2026 16:30

There's what, a year difference? Why on earth does it matter?

DandelionClockSeeds · 24/08/2026 17:01

49 & 58 is fine.

His Mum was very young when she had him, hence you are flagging it. If she'd been mid 20s 5p years ago, you wouldn't be questioning the ages.
