Banned from my local supermarket after an argument with a member of staff- my language was bad though.

So today I’ve been banned from my local supermarket, I’m not proud of what happened but I think that the member of staff was also in the wrong.

i was in the fruit and veg aisle looking to get some pre- chopped melon. The ones that come in sealed plastic pots. They were stacked quite tightly and some of the dates were quite soon, so I decided to go towards the back, in doing this I accidentally knocked 5 or 6 pots off the shelf. Immediately a female member of staff was on me- telling me “ you’re supposed to take the ones from the front”. I apologised for knocking some of them from the shelf but explained that it was my choice to choose the date that I wanted. By this point I had reassembled the display, so no harm done. She carried on chuntering so I said something like “ it’s really not a big deal, let’s move on”. As I went to walk away she said, “ it’s just not on”. I’m afraid this is where I let myself down. She was a small pointy woman of about 60 with short dyed red hair. I asked her what her problem was and she said “ customers like you thinking they own the place” to which I replied ( I know this is bad) “fuck off and shut your cunt up you fucking crackhead Anne Robinson lookalike”. It’s not often I take such a low blow but I had a rough upbringing and when I’m really pushed it emerges. The lady stormed off.

as I was leaving a manager asked me if I could step into an office for a chat, I said no thank you. She then said well I’m afraid that you won’t be able to shop here moving forwards.

so that’s that. Not proud of my mouth but she was a fucking horrible twat.

They would actually- I was very very careful about not swearing in front of them as kids, despite me being naturally very potty mouthed. My mums nickname for me was “ little cunt” from the age of 8 onwards

🙀

Well you handled that with dignity OP.

😀
I think those do not abuse staff zero tolerance posters are there for this

I know it’s bad, It was just her nastiness and rudeness over nothing, I am going to try and email an apology

I must learn to control my sweary mouth

Written in lines, 500 times should fix it.

It really doesn't matter if its your 'first ever offense' !!!
So is it ok to stab someone in a bout of road rage because you've never lost your shit with someone previously?
You had the opportunity to take the moral high ground in this situation but plummeted so deep into the sewer that there's no coming back from it. You deserved to get banned!
If I were you, I wouldn't be telling too many people about my utterly vile behaviour either......

WhyReindeer · 24/08/2026 15:47

@Alderedge1 I really wouldn't email to apologise unless you are going to set up a throw away email account with a different name.

As it stands they probably won't have a record of your name, if you email them to apologise they will have and you will probably find yourself banned from all Waitrose stores and John Lewis as well.

It's one of those things that will make you cringe with shame for the rest of your life but there isn't really anything you can do about it now. Going back to the store to apologise will also not help because it won't reverse their decision and will just refresh the memory of manager and staff member as to what you look like - reinforce your appearance in their minds. As it is, give it 12 months and they probably won't even remember.

Come off it 😂, they’re not going to bother circulating her name and a description of her to every Waitrose and John Lewis store in the country for this.

MajorSamanthaCarter · 24/08/2026 16:18

Could someone explain in detail how exactly you shut your cunt up?

Lovinit6 · 24/08/2026 16:18

If the watermelon was falling off the shelves, then it was clearly over stocked.

obviously no one can condone your behaviour but it sounds like you’re taking accountability for it.

The Waitrose worker was rude too - okay, not as rude as you but you never speak to customers like that ever!

Also wanted to ask if you’re okay? Because sometimes a response like yours came from something else that had happened recently/that day.

OakleyAnnie · 24/08/2026 16:19

gamerchick · 24/08/2026 14:13

So what happens when you're really pushed, if that's what you call pushed? Do you punch people?

You can't speak to people like that OP and it is irritating when people dig right to the back of stock to find longer dates. Even though we all know it's more beneficial to us. She was wrong but you flew off a cliff.

So what should you do if you want melon for Wednesday but all the pots at the front are best before Monday? Of course you’ll look for a longer date. Don’t be silly.

Alderedge1 · 24/08/2026 16:19

OneNewLeader · 24/08/2026 16:02

What type of melon was it.

Fucking cantaloupe

Oh go away, what utter bollocks.

Re the multiple pots tumbling, the phrase "bull in a china shop" does spring to mind.

You said "Not proud of my mouth but she was a fucking horrible twat."

I think you won the prize for the worse mouth and abuse. Apologise and learn from this.

Monty36 · 24/08/2026 16:25

You are in charge of your mouth and what comes out of it.
Overuse of swearing does not have the impact desired. People will think you unwell.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 24/08/2026 16:25

I don’t think you should go back to apologise the decent thing to do would be to accept the ban and go elsewhere. Completely ridiculous and inexcusable escalation. Maybe she was a rude jobsworth (not opposed to grabbing the best dates at the back myself) but she didn’t come even remotely close to deserving that level of abuse. If I knew you as a friend and witnessed that I would want nothing to do with you. Honestly it’s so far off the scale, unhinged behaviour and you don’t even seem that embarrassed or ashamed.

I say this as someone who also grew up in a household where being called a cunt as a child was par for the course.

Indianajet · 24/08/2026 16:26

You obviously use swear words as part of your everyday language - I hope you manage to control it around children (all children, not just your own). I am glad the manager banned you, as I, as a customer, would object to hearing you speaking like that.

Greywizardthewhite · 24/08/2026 16:30

The staff member had probably just been moaned at by management about too much waste! And customers taking from the back!
It also makes stock checking harder and easier to miss going or out of date stock!

I 100% agree. I am a council chav and I’ll never change that

Being brought up on a council estate does not mean such vile language needs to be used. I was brought up on a council estate and would never behave in such a disgusting way

Yes, I think on your CV you could fairly say claim "fluency" or even "mother tongue" op!

llikeyourbum · 24/08/2026 16:33

I mean you shouldn’t have said that but it gave me a bloody good laugh.

roxyro · 24/08/2026 16:34

As someone who can get very frustrated and will resort to the odd fuck off depending on the circumstances, I can’t comprehend of using language like that. You were over the top foul mouthed and I’m not surprised you’ve been banned.

The assistant was wrong to tell you which pack to take and it’s the customer’s right to buy what they want but you know yourself your outburst was way, way out or order.

EmailsaysOOO · 24/08/2026 16:35

Wow, you sound rough..You should apologise.

PuffinIsle · 24/08/2026 16:35

Well that's quite a temper you've got there OP.

Lilliputain · 24/08/2026 16:36

You’re just going to have to drive into Wilmslow now OP!

butterpuffed · 24/08/2026 16:39

The fact that even after saying you're thinking of sending an email or flowers , you're calling her a 'pointy old witch' shows you don't regret your outburst at all, you just want to be able to carry on using that Waitrose .
